HD Hyundai (267250.KS) is launching shipbuilding cooperation in the United States with Kiewit, the largest US engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) company.
HD Hyundai said on the 19th that it had signed a “strategic partnership for shipbuilding business cooperation” with Kiewit.
The signing ceremony, held at Kiewit Offshore’s headquarters in Corpus Christi, Texas, was attended by executives and officials from both companies, including Choi Han-nae, head of the planning division at HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (009540.KS), and Chad Johnson, CEO of Kiewit Offshore.
Kiewit is the largest integrated construction, engineering and infrastructure company in the United States, with strengths in large-scale EPC projects across power, energy, offshore and industrial facilities. It has a rich track record in the fabrication, installation and commissioning of large offshore structures in North America as well as South American regions including Brazil.
Under the partnership, the two companies will explore joint shipbuilding within the United States and cooperate in the production of ship blocks and modules. The approach combines HD Hyundai’s design, materials supply chain and construction technology with Kiewit’s local fabrication and construction capabilities to jointly carry out business in the United States.
“Through cooperation with Kiewit, we plan to actively support US efforts to rebuild the shipbuilding industry,” an HD Hyundai official said. “Going forward, we will expand cooperation between the two companies into the floating data center (FDC) field and seek business opportunities in the North American infrastructure market, which is showing explosive growth.”
HD Hyundai has continued various cooperation projects in the United States, signing MOUs for local shipbuilding with Huntington Ingalls in April last year and with Edison Chouest Offshore (ECO) in June.
