President Lee Jae Myung, who is on a trip to five countries in the U.S., South America, and Germany, met with the heads of leading artificial intelligence (AI) companies in Silicon Valley in the U.S. as his first schedule to strengthen the Korea-U.S. AI alliance.
On the 24th (local time), President Lee met with Dario Amodei, CEO of Antropic, the developer of the global AI generation model ‘Mitos’ at a hotel in downtown San Francisco.
At the meeting, President Lee said, “It’s nice and happy to meet a world-famous person. He said, “He is also very famous in Korea.”
“We look forward to Antropic’s special interest, investment and contribution as South Korea intends to expand its investment in artificial intelligence in the future,” he said. “Korea is the best partner to become a key base for Antropic’s Asian artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure.”
President Lee also said, “If Antropic’s global AI model capabilities, identified as Mitos, and the potential of the large AI consumer market are combined with AI capabilities such as semiconductors and AI data centers in Korea, it will be an opportunity for growth for both sides,” adding, “Korea is optimized as a key AI base in Asia, and we look forward to significantly expanding investment and cooperation with domestic companies.”
“Korea is investing heavily to become the world’s No. 1 player in AI use in the daily life, industry, and public sectors, and there are great possibilities such as diverse foundations such as talent and technology and high technology acceptance by the people,” he added. “If there is interest and support from high-tech companies such as Antropics, we can create a new future together.”
In response, Amodei said, “We are grateful that the Korean government has placed artificial intelligence as the top priority. We will be able to cooperate in many areas, he said. “Business cooperation with Korean companies is exciting and has a very high priority.”
In particular, Amodei said, “Antropic has made cooperation with (other) companies a top priority, and we have high expectations for working with Korean companies. Korean memory manufacturers have also invested a lot in Antropic, he said. “In that sense, we plan to cooperate in various fields such as data centers.”
“While making investments in many areas, including cooperation with memory manufacturers and AI data centers, we have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Ministry of Science and ICT regarding AI security and cyber industries. It’s really exciting to work with South Korea,” he said.
At the meeting, opinions were exchanged on cooperation in supplying advanced memory semiconductors in Korea, large-scale joint investment in domestic AI data centers as a key hub for AI infrastructure in Asia, and cooperation measures for safe and responsible AI development and utilization.
President Lee will soon attend the ‘San Francisco AI Summit’ event held there. In addition to the CEOs of big tech companies who met with President Lee, Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong, SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won, Hyundai Motor Group Chairman Chung Eui-sun and Naver Chairman Lee Hae-jin will attend to exchange opinions on the government’s “three major mega projects.”
In particular, President Lee will announce the ‘Sanfran AI Declaration’ that contains Korea’s will to leap from the global AI ecosystem to a ‘non-fungible country’.
