President Lee Jae Myung, who is visiting San Francisco, strengthened friendship with the CEO of a global big tech company on the 24th (local time) at a local outdoor terrace restaurant with a view of the beach.
President Lee said at the dinner, “In Korea, families are also called family members who are ‘people who are eating together’. It means a lot to eat together not only in Korea but all over the world, he said, adding, “If I shout ‘we are’ please say ‘we are family members’.” In response, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang responded, “We are family.”
Just as CEO Jensen Hwang met and bonded with major Korean business leaders during his visit to Korea last year, the dinner was organized with the aim of sharing local food in California and talking without enthusiasm. The menu included fish and chips, fried squid, crab cakes, and clam chowder, along with beer.
President Lee lightly bumped a beer bottle to CEO Jensen Hwang, saying, “You’ll need chicken.” He then asked CEO Hwang, “Did your youth in Yongsan Electronics Shopping Center become a big energy source?” and when the answer came back, he expressed familiarity and continued the conversation.
During the meal, jokes that softened the atmosphere were also exchanged. When Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Science and ICT Bae Kyounghun said he would pay for the meal, CEO Hwang suggested buying more beer, and President Lee said, “I can’t because I’m a public servant.” In addition, when President Lee introduced, “The vice prime minister (Bae) was an LG researcher,” CEO Hwang responded, “Then he would have made a lot of money,” and President Lee responded, “I brought him right before I made money, so I couldn’t make money.”
In fact, the cost of the meal was reportedly calculated by Deputy Prime Minister Bae.

At a private dinner, President Lee encouraged the entrepreneurs who attended and said, “Thanks to the entrepreneurs, Korea’s economic growth rate has risen significantly, which is the best performance in decades,” adding, “Please continue to contribute to the development of the industrial ecosystem.”
In response, global big tech CEOs said, “Korea is already the third-largest global technology, and it is true that AI technology is a difficult technology, but it is by no means impossible. We expect to invest in Korea and create a top-notch frontier AI model in a short period of time,” he said. “It is good for Korea to use AI models from other countries, but it is necessary to create its own AI model,” he suggested.

CEO Hwang, Broadcom President and CEO Tan, Microsoft Azure Hardware President Rani Borkar, Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong, SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won, Hyundai Motor Chairman Chung Eui-sun and Naver Board Chairman Lee Hae-jin attended the dinner.
