President Lee Jae Myung held a series of meetings in San Francisco on the 24th (local time) with Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, Antropic CEO Dario Amodei and Broadcom CEO, who are leading the artificial intelligence (AI) industry. The government explained that the combined corporate value of five big tech companies, Nvidia, OpenAI, Antropic, Broadcom, and Microsoft, which attended the AI Summit prepared by the Korean government, amounts to $11.6 trillion (about 1.7 trillion won).

Key global AI ecosystem companies such as Nvidia, which leads the graphics processing unit (GPU) market, Broadcom, a strong semiconductor design player, and OpenAI and Antropic, which lead the development of Generative AI, are gathered together. Some say that it was an opportunity to confirm the influence of K Semiconductor, which dominated the memory market, and at the same time dispel the “semiconductor peak theory.”

In a meeting with President Lee, major big tech CEOs praised the role of Korea, such as “the golden age of Korea” (Jensen Hwang) and “AI revolution is impossible without Korea” (Sam Altman). It is also noteworthy that several long-term supply contracts (LTAs) have been signed between these companies and Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix in the wake of the San Francisco AI Summit.

Looking at the details of the contract reaffirms the long-term demand for memory semiconductors. Samsung Electronics and Broadcom have signed a business agreement on $200 billion worth of advanced memory supply and foundry cooperation for AI chip production over five years. SK Hynix has decided to discuss long-term supply worth 750 billion dollars over five years with Nvidia and others.

“Cooperation” here is a kind of long-term purchase contract, and it should be seen that Korean companies have secured a definitive pre-order,” said Yongbum Kim, head of the Blue House’s policy office.

Some in the government evaluated it as the ‘AI version’ of the Solvay Conference in 1927 where global scientists gathered together over the AI Summit, where AI leaders from all over the world gathered.
