Hanwha Group (000880) and the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) are joining forces to cultivate talent to lead the space industry.
Hanwha said on the 26th that the fifth class of “Pebbles of the Universe” launched the previous day at the Hanwha Building in Janggyo-dong, Jung-gu, Seoul. Pebbles of the Universe is a program that fosters expertise in space science among middle school students nationwide. Hanwha selected 30 participants for the fifth class through essay reviews and discussion-based interviews. They will receive specialized education from science communicator “Gwedo” and professors from KAIST’s Department of Aerospace Engineering, among others, through the end of the year. Students who complete the program will receive benefits including a certificate issued in the name of the KAIST president, an opportunity to attend the KAIST Global Institute for Talented Education, KAIST mentoring, and overseas space agency field trips for all participants.
“The space industry requires an integrated solution spanning launch vehicles, satellite manufacturing, and operations, and it is also highly connected to artificial intelligence (AI),” a Hanwha Group official said. “It carries great significance in that we are responsible for nurturing talent for Korea’s space industry.”
