The Hanwha Eagles overturned the game with an offensive explosion in the bottom of the eighth inning, routing the LG Twins even after surrendering a tying score at a crucial moment.
Hanwha defeated LG 14-4 in the game held at Hanwha Life Ballpark in Daejeon on the 26th, securing a winning series in the weekend three-game set. The team washed away the disappointment of the previous day, when it lost 11-15 and missed a chance at a fourth straight win, in just one day.
The game appeared to tilt toward Hanwha from the early innings. After scoring first on Noh Si-hwan’s RBI hit in the bottom of the first, Hanwha extended its lead to 4-0 in the bottom of the fourth on Noh Si-hwan’s run, an opponent’s error, and Lee Won-seok’s RBI hit. New foreign pitcher Bruce Zimmermann also had a successful debut, allowing three hits and no runs over four innings.
But the game began to swing from the seventh inning. Having reclaimed the lead, Hanwha did not stop there. Pinch-hitter Han Ji-yun hit his first career home run against LG closer Son Ju-yeong — a three-run shot — widening the score to 8-4. Choi In-ho’s double, Moon Hyun-bin’s RBI hit, and Noh Si-hwan’s two-run home run then poured in to quickly make it 11-4, and Heo In-seo added a back-to-back home run to pull ahead 12-4. With Park Jung-hyun’s RBI hit and the opposing pitcher’s wild pitch added on, Hanwha piled up an astonishing 10 runs in the bottom of the eighth inning alone.
Noh Si-hwan led the lineup with three hits, one home run, and three RBIs, while Heo In-seo also put on a strong performance with two hits and one home run. Moon Hyun-bin and Kim Tae-yeon played their part with three hits and one hit, respectively. LG, aiming to bounce back after snapping an eight-game losing streak, collapsed again as a single error at a crucial moment gave the opening.
