A financial information company has released its own forecast that South Korean semiconductor giant SK Hynix is expected to achieve record-high operating profits in the second quarter of 2026.<\/p>\n

According to information compiled by Yonhap Infomax, a South Korean financial information company, based on forecasts from 14 South Korean securities firms, SK Hynix is expected to achieve sales of 84.1 trillion won (approximately 9.4 trillion yen) and operating profit of 64.1 trillion won (approximately 7.2 trillion yen) in the April-June 2026 quarter. These figures significantly exceed the 47.2 trillion won (approximately 5.3 trillion yen) in annual operating profit recorded by SK Hynix in 2025.<\/p>\n

SK Hynix maintains its dominant position in the volatile memory market alongside Samsung and Micron, and is projected to reach a market capitalization of $1 trillion (approximately 1.6 trillion yen) for the first time in May 2026. It will be the second company listed on the South Korean market to reach this milestone, following Samsung, and the third in Asia, following Taiwanese semiconductor manufacturer TSMC and Samsung.<\/p>\n

Analysts attribute this strong quarterly performance to rising memory chip prices, as well as high demand for HBM and SSDs used in AI data centers. Kim Dong-won, a researcher at South Korean investment bank KB Securities, predicted that ‘sales to global technology companies and AI data center operators are expected to account for 70% of SK Hynix’s total sales in the second quarter.’<\/p>\n

Despite strong performance, high demand has led to inventory shortages, and the CEO of SK Hynix has indicated that memory shortages will continue until the 2030s, stating that ‘2027 will be the worst year for memory.’<\/p>\n
