LG Electronics<\/a> reaffirmed its commitment to circularity at CES 2026<\/a>. The company outlined its measurable progress as well as its dedication to embedding circular economy<\/a> principles throughout the entire product lifecycle. Along with its “Better Life for All” ESG vision, LG is focusing on innovation, partnerships and consumer engagement to minimise environmental impact.<\/p>\n

The company\u2019s circularity goals were\u00a0highlighted at a CES circularity session exploring the future of sustainable design, responsible resource use, and cross-industry collaboration. LG’s thoughts on meaningful progress toward a circular economy requiring\u00a0coordinated action across technology, policy, business, and consumer behaviour was discussed.<\/p>\n

\u201cCircularity is not a single initiative; it’s a system-wide transformation,\u201d said LG Electronics USA Senior Vice President John I. Taylor. \u201cThrough innovation, collaboration and transparent goals, LG is committed to the transition to a circular economy while delivering on our ESG commitments and our Better Life for All vision.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cost is a significant barrier to the acceleration of global circularity, for example recycled<\/a> or next-generation materials are typically 10-20% more expensive than conventional alternatives. LG is investing in technology development and scaling up to close this gap, making\u00a0sustainable choices more accessible.<\/p>\n

LG is also helping to strengthen consumer education and communication to motivate customers\u2019 involvement in used product and packaging collection initiatives, with clear guidance on how and where products can be returned\/recycled.<\/p>\n

Looking ahead to the future<\/p>\n

LG has set out a series of ambitious goals to advance circularity by 2030, including:<\/p>\n

Applying 600,000 tons of recycled plastics across its products by 2030, 188,000 tons were already utilised as of 2024.
\n\tAlso, by 2030, LG hopes to collect 8 million tons of waste globally, the company has already surpassed 5.01 million tons cumulatively since 2006. <\/p>\n

These commitments are supported by a four stage, resource circulation system, made up of the following stages:<\/p>\n

Production: To achieve its 2030 target, LG is expanding the use of recycled plastics to include exterior product components. Additionally, the company is accelerating the adoption of pulp mould packaging to replace conventional polystyrene.
\n\tUse: LG’s growing subscription business in South Korea is combining convenience with sustainability to extend products’ lifespan. The company\u2019s \u201cThinQ UP\u201d appliances allow customers to add new features post-purchase, which reduces premature replacement.
\n\tDistribution: Regarding distribution, LG is utilising plastic-free packaging for small appliances, with pulp and corrugated cardboard used for internal cushioning. Closed-loop recycling is also being expanded at logistics sites, with waste stretch film being recycled into new logistics film as well as reduced virgin plastic usage and operational waste.
\n\tDisposal: LG will continue to accelerate its global e-waste collection efforts.
