LG Electronics’ (066570.KS) new artificial intelligence (AI) business is moving out of the laboratory and toward the production floor. The company has begun mass production of test versions of its humanoid robot “CLOi-d,” and initial units of the actuator, a core robot component, have also started to emerge. The move is interpreted as a push to bring “Physical AI” businesses, which had remained in the advanced-development stage, into the monetization phase.<\/p>\n
On the 30th, LG Electronics said during its second-quarter earnings conference call that it had established a Robotics Business Center and would sequentially deploy CLOi-d units to the “Robotics Data Factory” set to open in the second half of the year. There, the company plans to operate CLOi-d to secure high-quality robot training data and use it to advance the “Robot Foundation Model (RFM)” it is developing in cooperation with Nvidia. To that end, it has begun mass production of test CLOi-d units.<\/p>\n
The analysis that the company’s humanoid proof of concept (PoC) has entered its main course is gaining traction. LG Electronics launched the Robotics Business Center separately and is building out robot product verification along with training data based on robot behavior, AI agents, and robot operating systems. The aim is to supply a customized “Physical AI” total solution to clients.<\/p>\n
The actuator business has also entered the production stage. In the first half of the year, the company built an actuator pilot line at its Changwon plant and is currently producing initial units to be mounted on CLOi-d. Through the initial volume, it is verifying mass-production capability while simultaneously stabilizing quality.<\/p>\n
