Chilean President Jose Antonio Kast asked President Lee Jae-myung to “visit Antarctica together” following their summit on the 30th.<\/p>\n
After concluding the summit with President Lee at the Moneda Palace in Santiago, Chile, Kast made a joint press announcement in which he noted that the two nations are cooperating on Antarctic research conducted at the King Sejong Station, located near Santiago. He explained that the two countries “seek to take exchanges one step further.” He then invited President Lee, saying, “In that vein, I ask that you visit Antarctica once.”<\/p>\n
Kast also emphasized the power of culture. “Chile’s new generations are drawing closer to Korean culture through K-pop and BTS,” he said. He stressed the special level of the bilateral relationship, saying it is “measured through trust, not kilometers,” adding, “Chilean wine and fruit have found a place in Korean households, Chilean lithium and copper in Korean industry, and Korean products in Chilean households.”<\/p>\n
Regarding the exchange of critical minerals between Korea and Chile, he also cited a Korean proverb, “Many hands make light work.” The two nations signed five memorandums of understanding (MOUs), including a mineral resources partnership MOU, covering public safety, polar research, maritime safety, and investment cooperation. “It was a very fruitful occasion,” Kast said. “I thank President Lee for his contribution to signing the MOUs.”<\/p>\n
In response, President Lee said, “I hope that Korea and Chile, as true friends who are each other’s ‘Amigo,’ will join hands and open a better future for both countries together.” He then invited Kast to Korea, saying, “I hope you will visit Korea soon so that we can meet there.”<\/p>\n
