Under laboratory conditions, this means they can withstand submersion in up to one meter of fresh water for 30 minutes, and use at swimming pools or beaches is not recommended. Despite this, several factors appear to have contributed to the device surviving 50 minutes inside a washing machine with water pressure and rotational force. Most importantly, the thick, durable denim fabric acted as a cushion, preventing direct impact between the earbuds and the stainless steel drum wall. Had the earbuds or case struck the metal surface directly, external damage or microscopic gaps could have formed, likely allowing water to penetrate the interior.<\/p>\n<p>The decisive survival factor was the swift emergency response.
