Yonhap News

Candidate Chung Chung-rae won 25,189 votes to take first place in the Yeongnam regional primary of the Democratic Party of Korea’s national convention to select its leadership. In Ulsan, candidate Kim Min-seok held a narrow lead, but Chung widened the gap in South Gyeongsang and Busan to record the overall lead in the Yeongnam region.

According to the results of the Yeongnam region eligible party member vote, covering Ulsan, Busan and South Gyeongsang, announced by the Democratic Party’s central election management committee on the 2nd, Chung placed first with 25,189 votes (46.65%). Kim came in second with 23,675 votes (43.84%), and candidate Song took third with 5,129 votes (9.49%).

In the Chungcheong region, whose results were announced the previous day, Kim had placed first. But Chung is seen as having succeeded in a reversal in the Yeongnam region, considered the home base of the “pro-Roh (pro-Roh Moo-hyun) and pro-Moon (pro-Moon Jae-in)” factions, on the strength of high organizational power and name recognition. Votes from the Yeongnam region will add 5% when total vote shares are combined.

In the Supreme Council member election, candidate Choi Min-hee took first place with 24,696 votes. She was followed by candidate Park Sun-won with 17,317 votes, candidate Han Min-soo with 16,060 votes, candidate Suh Mi-hwa with 14,961 votes, candidate Kim Yong with 13,232 votes, candidate Lee Sung-yoon with 12,812 votes, Im Mi-ae with 5,765 votes and Kim Young-ho with 3,139 votes.

In this convention, where a one-person-one-vote system is applied for the first time, the party leader electorate is weighted 70% for delegates and eligible party members and 30% for the general public. In the regional tour primaries, only the eligible party member vote results are disclosed. The delegate vote (online voting on the 17th) and public vote (opinion poll on the 15th and 16th), excluding eligible party members, will be announced at the national convention in Daejeon on the 17th, after the regional tour primaries conclude.

Chung Chung-rae, a candidate for leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, greets party members at a joint…

[3
55148,19093,1148,12743,30113,30112,112,51771,55147
post-106923","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-seoul","tag-choi-min-hee","tag-chung-chung-rae","tag-democratic-party-of-korea","tag-kim-min-seok","tag-national-convention","tag-party-leadership-election","tag-seoul","tag-supreme-council","tag-yeongnam-regional-primary
["GET
