As the year progresses, consumers continue to put their money down on new vehicles, with the latest sales results showing clear trends, signaling a major shift in the market.<\/p>\n<p>With gas prices still unpredictably high, and the average cost of a new car continuing to hover around $50,000, consumers are seeking cheaper vehicles. Affordable models across the industry saw big increases in sales last month compared to the year before, including older offerings, like the Mazda3. \u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Hybrids were also quite popular last month as consumers sought ways to lower their prices at the pump, and brands that lack them suffered. Battery-electric vehicles also took a beating, with several models down by significant margins. \u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Unlike quarterly results, only a handful of automakers release a monthly sales report. We have data from Ford, Hyundai, Mazda, and a few others. Here are the July auto sales winners and losers.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Winners: Cheap Cars Are Having Their Moment\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>        <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/korea\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/1785985843_801_16x9-tr.png\" alt=\"2026 Mazda3\" width=\"16\" height=\"9\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Photo by: Mazda<\/p>\n<p>Across the board, affordable cars saw huge sales increases last month. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motor1.com\/hyundai\/elantra\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"1\" data-params=\"%7B%22make_alias%22%3A%22hyundai%22%2C%22alias%22%3A%22elantra%22%7D\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Hyundai Elantra<\/a> and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.motor1.com\/mazda\/mazda3\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"1\" data-params=\"%7B%22make_alias%22%3A%22mazda%22%2C%22alias%22%3A%22mazda3%22%7D\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Mazda3<\/a> saw huge increases month-over-month. Mazda\u2019s cheapest model even saw a major increase of 28.0 percent for the year, with 24,355 sold so far. \u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>At Ford, sales for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motor1.com\/ford\/bronco-sport\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"1\" data-params=\"%7B%22make_alias%22%3A%22ford%22%2C%22alias%22%3A%22bronco-sport%22%7D\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Bronco Sport<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motor1.com\/ford\/maverick\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"1\" data-params=\"%7B%22make_alias%22%3A%22ford%22%2C%22alias%22%3A%22maverick%22%7D\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Maverick<\/a> were also up in a big way, while the Accord, despite its age, experienced a significant increase in July sales. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motor1.com\/honda\/accord\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"1\" data-params=\"%7B%22make_alias%22%3A%22honda%22%2C%22alias%22%3A%22accord%22%7D\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Accord<\/a> sales are already up 36.1 percent for the year, while Civic sales also increased last month.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>At Kia, sales for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motor1.com\/kia\/seltos\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"1\" data-params=\"%7B%22make_alias%22%3A%22kia%22%2C%22alias%22%3A%22seltos%22%7D\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Seltos<\/a> (likely with the arrival of the new version in dealers)\u00a0are booming. They were up 79.1 percent in July and are up 38.4 percent for the year.<\/p>\n<p>Mazda3 \u2014 87.5%<br \/>\nKia Seltos \u2014 79.1%<br \/>\nHonda Accord \u2014 54.7%<br \/>\nHyundai Elantra \u2014 39.0%<br \/>\nFord Maverick \u2014 29.1%<br \/>\nHonda Civic \u2014 20.7%<br \/>\nFord Bronco Sport \u2014 10.6%<\/p>\n<p>Losers: Electric Vehicles Continue To Tumble\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>        <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/korea\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/1785985843_801_16x9-tr.png\" alt=\"2026 Hyundai Ioniq 5 N\" width=\"16\" height=\"9\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Photo by: Hyundai<\/p>\n<p>July was a terrible month for electric vehicles, not unsurprisingly. That includes the Hyundai Ioniq 5, with sales\u00a0of the popular hatchback down significantly compared to last month. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motor1.com\/hyundai\/ioniq-9\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"1\" data-params=\"%7B%22make_alias%22%3A%22hyundai%22%2C%22alias%22%3A%22ioniq-9%22%7D\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ioniq 9<\/a> sales also took a tumble.<\/p>\n<p>At Ford, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motor1.com\/ford\/mach-e\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"1\" data-params=\"%7B%22make_alias%22%3A%22ford%22%2C%22alias%22%3A%22mach-e%22%7D\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Mustang Mach-E<\/a> sales declined drastically last month, and they are down 50.2 percent so far this year. Sales for the F-150 Lightning were down a whopping 95.0 percent as the automaker turns the pickup into a hybrid. \u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>At Honda, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motor1.com\/news\/802015\/honda-prologue-dead\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"0\" data-params=\"%7B%22article_edition_id%22%3A%22802015%22%2C%22section%22%3A%221%22%2C%22alias%22%3A%22honda-prologue-dead%22%7D\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">recently discontinued Prologue<\/a> sold just 1,554 examples. Acura also sold zero ZDXs, down from 665 a year ago. So far in 2026, Acura has sold 108 electric crossovers, which it <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motor1.com\/news\/773465\/acura-zdx-dead-discontinued\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"0\" data-params=\"%7B%22article_edition_id%22%3A%22773465%22%2C%22section%22%3A%221%22%2C%22alias%22%3A%22acura-zdx-dead-discontinued%22%7D\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">discontinued last September<\/a>. \u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Ford F-150 Lightning \u2014 95.0%<br \/>\nHonda Prologue \u2014 75.4%<br \/>\nFord Mustang Mach-E \u2014 64.9%<br \/>\nHyundai Ioniq 5 \u2014 38.0%<br \/>\nHyundai Ioniq 9 \u2014 35.0%<\/p>\n<p>Winner: Hybrids Take The Top Spot<\/p>\n<p>        <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/korea\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/1785985843_801_16x9-tr.png\" alt=\"2026 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid\" width=\"16\" height=\"9\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Photo by: Hyundai<\/p>\n<p>High gas prices have consumers seeking relief at the pump and buying hybrids in record numbers. At <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motor1.com\/hyundai\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"2\" data-params=\"%7B%22alias%22%3A%22hyundai%22%7D\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Hyundai<\/a>, hybrid sales increased 35 percent year-over-year for the month of July, with Sonata HEV sales jumping an incredible 85.0 percent. \u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Buyers also bought Honda\u2019s hybrid in record numbers, with the Japanese automaker selling 36,000 hybrid vehicles last month. Accord hybrid sales were up 28.7 percent while <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motor1.com\/honda\/cr-v\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"1\" data-params=\"%7B%22make_alias%22%3A%22honda%22%2C%22alias%22%3A%22cr-v%22%7D\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">CR-V<\/a> hybrid sales jumped 18.4 percent. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motor1.com\/honda\/civic\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"1\" data-params=\"%7B%22make_alias%22%3A%22honda%22%2C%22alias%22%3A%22civic%22%7D\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Civic<\/a> hybrid sales actually declined by 6.8 percent. \u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>At Kia, sales for the Sportage hybrid were up 76 percent. Seltos hybrid sales jumped 61 percent while Carnival hybrid and Sorento hybrid sales increased by 16 percent each. The mainstream Ford brand was down 9.1 percent for the month, but things were even worse for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motor1.com\/lincoln\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"2\" data-params=\"%7B%22alias%22%3A%22lincoln%22%7D\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Lincoln<\/a>. \u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The luxury brand suffered a 35.9 percent decline in sales compared to July 2025. Most of that decrease is from the Corsair, which saw sales tumble 92.8 percent. The automaker discontinued the model, alongside the Ford Escape, after 2025. \u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The rest of the lineup was better. Sales for the Nautilus and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motor1.com\/lincoln\/aviator\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"1\" data-params=\"%7B%22make_alias%22%3A%22lincoln%22%2C%22alias%22%3A%22aviator%22%7D\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Aviator<\/a> were down 31.8 percent and 2.7 percent, respectively. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motor1.com\/lincoln\/navigator\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"1\" data-params=\"%7B%22make_alias%22%3A%22lincoln%22%2C%22alias%22%3A%22navigator%22%7D\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Navigator<\/a> sales declined 2.5 percent last month, while overall Lincoln sales are down 12.6 percent for 2026. \u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Winner: Subaru WRX Sales Boom<\/p>\n<p>        <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/korea\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/1785985843_801_16x9-tr.png\" alt=\"2026 Subaru WRX\" width=\"16\" height=\"9\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Photo by: Subaru<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motor1.com\/subaru\/wrx\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"1\" data-params=\"%7B%22make_alias%22%3A%22subaru%22%2C%22alias%22%3A%22wrx%22%7D\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Subaru WRX<\/a> recorded a stunning 214.7 percent increase in sales last month. The automaker sold 1,438 examples of the sedan, with\u00a08,546 sold so far this year, which is a\u00a024.1 percent increase compared to the first seven months of 2025. The model continues a sales boom that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motor1.com\/news\/795662\/2026-subaru-wrx-sales-up\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"0\" data-params=\"%7B%22article_edition_id%22%3A%22795662%22%2C%22section%22%3A%221%22%2C%22alias%22%3A%222026-subaru-wrx-sales-up%22%7D\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">started earlier this year<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>After an abysmal sales year, the automaker cut the WRX&#8217;s starting price by more than $5,000 for the 2026 model year, which has translated into real results.
