In the future, Kakao plans to focus on investing in AI, represented by Canana, in preparation for the artificial intelligence (AI) era.

Kakao announced on the 6th that it earned KRW 2.985 trillion in sales and KRW 277 billion in operating profit in the second quarter of this year based on consolidated financial statements. The figures are up 9% and 36% year-on-year, respectively, both of which are the highest quarterly figures. However, net profit fell 73% to 18 billion won during the same period. Following the sale of Kakao Healthcare last year, the impact reflects the discontinued operating losses related to Kakao Games management rights transactions this year.

As a result, Kakao’s cumulative sales in the first half of the year amounted to KRW 4.40.5 trillion, up 3.8% from the same period last year. During the same period, cumulative operating profit soared 67.7% to 488.4 billion won. The cumulative net profit fell 34.2% to 244.8 billion won. The figure is in line with stock market expectations.

Looking at each business area, the platform division’s sales rose 17% to KRW 1.23 trillion compared to the same period last year. TalkBiz ads and TalkBiz commerce drove the performance. Solid demand from advertisers in the financial sector led to the growth of TalkBiz advertisements and subscriptions, and display advertisements using KakaoTalk pages also succeeded in increasing user activity.

TalkBiz Commerce’s transaction volume in the second quarter was 2.7 trillion won, up 9% from the same period last year. In particular, the amount of self-purchasing transactions, which means purchasing for me as one of the Kakao Talk gifts, increased by 39% from the same period last year. Kakao explains that the proportion of self-purchasing transactions remains at 20%, with growth engines remaining.

Platform and other sales increased 22% year-on-year to 587 billion won. In terms of mobility, the Last Mile logistics business did well, and Pay continued to grow in payments. The content division’s sales amounted to 868.2 billion won, similar to the same period last year.

“The competitiveness of the agentic AI era is not just to create outstanding models, but to understand the context and intentions of users and connect them to actual actions,” Kakao CEO Chung Shin-ah said. “Kakao will accelerate the era when the whole nation naturally uses its own AI agent based on the daily user contact point of Kakao Talk and the technology and service ecosystem it has accumulated so far.”

9% of last year’s sales ↑ 36% of operating profit ↑ 사진 확대 [Sudden news] Kakao broke its…

[622
2588,78,1431,9281,827,831,4539,21886,613
post-111166","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-kakao","tag-artificial-intelligence","tag-business","tag-consolidated-financial-statements","tag-display","tag-kakao","tag-kakaotalk","tag-mobility","tag-net-income","tag-operating-profit
["GET
