SadaNews – Kim Yo Jong, sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, criticized Japan’s recent test of launching a Tomahawk missile in a statement, as reported by the official Korean Central News Agency on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
Kim added that Pyongyang will make new military options in response to the threat from Japan.<\/p>\n
She also pointed to Japan’s recent launch of a long-range cruise missile from the destroyer Chokai of the Self-Defense Forces in the Pacific a few days ago, in addition to other missile launch tests and its participation in a joint military exercise led by the United States in the Philippines in May.<\/p>\n
Kim stated that Tokyo has so far tried to “cover up its ambition to become a giant military power” and that “the United States is behind these dangerous military movements of Japan.” <\/p>\n
She clarified that Pyongyang “will lay out additional military options,” without going into details.<\/p>\n
This came after the Japanese government announced on Tuesday that the country needs to adapt to modern warfare methods, such as drones and artificial intelligence in Ukraine, in addition to strengthening its defense industries.<\/p>\n
The defense white paper, adopted by the Cabinet on Tuesday and spanning 598 pages, affirmed that China represents the biggest strategic challenge to Japan, amidst increasing presence of Chinese warships and repeated movements in the Pacific.<\/p>\n
The report also indicated that Japan, inspired by Ukraine’s use of drones, sees that adapting to “new war methods” has become essential.<\/p>\n
Japan has strengthened its military capabilities and defense spending in recent years, and has begun deploying long-range cruise missiles to deter Chinese military activities.<\/p>\n
Tokyo also views unmanned weapons as a means to compensate for the increasing shortage of personnel in the armed forces, amid declining population numbers.<\/p>\n
