The package includes funding for two key projects: the second phase of construction of the Yongin fab for DRAM production and the M17 fab in Cheongju, which is planned to manufacture NAND memory.

According to the announcement, 35.2 trillion won will go toward the second phase of construction of the DRAM fab in Yongin, while 19.1 trillion won will be allocated to the M17 project in Cheongju.

In June, SK Hynix said it intended to invest 600 trillion won in the Yongin semiconductor cluster and 100 trillion won to expand its manufacturing base in Cheongju, but specific plans and timelines were disclosed only after approval by the board of directors.

Yongin will be home to the second of four fabs in the cluster, known as the Y2 fab, which will serve as a base for DRAM chip production. DRAM is a key component of servers supporting growing demand for artificial intelligence and large volumes of data.

Construction is scheduled to begin in July next year, with the first cleanroom expected to open in June 2029 for the production of high-bandwidth memory (HBM) and other advanced DRAM products. The first phase of the Yongin fab will also remain on schedule, with the first cleanroom expected to open in February next year.

In Cheongju, construction of the M17 fab, which will produce NAND memory for data storage in PCs and AI servers, is expected to begin in February next year, with the first cleanroom scheduled to open by December 2028.

In a separate regulatory filing, the company said it was actively considering additional measures to return value to shareholders through its shares and expected to finalize and disclose the details in the third quarter.

Context and next steps

The move demonstrates the scale of SK Hynix’s ambitions to strengthen its position in the global semiconductor market and support growing demand for DRAM, HBM, and NAND memory for servers and AI services. The company emphasized that details of further investments and financial measures would be clarified in subsequent public announcements and during the third quarter.

The company continues to implement its planned projects and expects official announcements outlining schedules and details on the allocation of capital investments over the coming years.

A new wave of chipmaking capacity is taking shape in South Korea, with two facilities aimed at the…

[20
57562,38104,23600,23785,154,241,275,39044,57561,35461
post-112014","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-sk-hynix","tag-cheongju-m17","tag-dram-production","tag-hbm-chips","tag-nand-memory","tag-news","tag-sk","tag-sk-hynix","tag-sk-hynix-investment","tag-sk-hynix-investment-dram-production-nand-memory-yongin-fab-cheongju-m17-hbm-chips","tag-yongin-fab
["GET
