The stock hit a record high of 1.665 million won on Sept. 11 last year but has since trended downward as profit-taking steadily emerged. With multiple brokerages forecasting earnings growth centered on its flagship Buldak brand, top-performing investors appear to have moved in to buy on the dip.

Earnings forecasts released by 10 major domestic brokerages over the past month project Samyang Foods to post consolidated second-quarter revenue of 755.1 billion won and operating profit of 177.5 billion won. That would mark increases of 36.5% and 47.8%, respectively, from the same quarter a year earlier. The company is expected to record 200 billion won in U.S. sales, up 51.5% year-on-year, while continuing its growth in the Chinese market. Hana Securities named Samyang Foods a promising medium- to long-term pick in a report published on the 30th of last month, and set a target price of 1.8 million won in a report on the 4th of this month.

Jeju Semiconductor, the second-most-bought stock, was trading at 86,700 won, up 14.99%. The company posted first-quarter operating profit of 67.1 billion won, a 1,713% surge from a year earlier. Its main products are low-power semiconductors used in the Internet of Things (IoT), automobiles and telecommunications, and profitability has improved amid a persistent global chip shortage. Jeju Semiconductor is a fabless design firm with no manufacturing facilities of its own, outsourcing production mainly to overseas foundries. Its share price has more than tripled from its Dec. 30 closing price last year of 26,350 won.

Alteogen, the third-most-bought stock and the largest company by market capitalization on the KOSDAQ, was up 15.08%. The surge is attributed to BlackRock’s expanded stake and strong earnings. BlackRock Fund Advisors, operated by BlackRock, disclosed after market close on the 7th of this month that it held 2,694,448 Alteogen shares, a 5.03% stake. As recently as the 30th of last month, BlackRock had held 2,670,175 shares, or 4.98%, adding 24,273 shares in a single day.

According to preliminary earnings released the same day, Alteogen posted consolidated first-half revenue of 140.5 billion won, operating profit of 73.5 billion won and net profit of 101.3 billion won — up 37%, 21% and 108%, respectively, from the first half of last year. Royalty income began to be reflected in earnings in earnest from the second quarter, with 63.3 billion won in royalties generated from products supplied to U.S. drugmaker Merck (MSD), among others, driving the upward trend.

The most heavily net-sold stocks on the day were APR, Samsung Electronics and Mirae Asset Securities, in that order. In the previous session, net buying was concentrated in Samsung Electro-Mechanics, Samsung Electronics and GNC Energy. The day before, the most net-sold stocks were SK hynix, Samsung SDI and Samyang Foods.

Mirae Asset Securities compiles the trades of clients ranked in the top 1% of returns over the past month and publishes them on its mobile trading system (MTS) on a real-time, previous-day and five-day basis.
