Kim Se-jin, who lost both her legs in an accident when she was young, filmed her challenge to become a fashion model wearing a prosthetic leg. Rather than hiding disability or distinguishing it as something special, it is to show it as a personality that expresses oneself. Last year, the video received the Minister of Health and Welfare Award at the YouTube content contest for the disabled ‘Green Your Dream’.\n<\/p>\n
POSCO DX is supporting video production and social advancement of disabled people who dream of becoming YouTube creators like Kim. It is a method of not only accepting works in the contest, but also teaching content planning, filming, and editing, and helping participants complete the video themselves.\n<\/p>\n
“Green Dreams” is a social contribution project operated by POSCO DX with POSCO and the Korea Association for the Disabled using the POSCO 1% Sharing Foundation fund. Since 2019, POSCO DX has been conducting video production education and content contests for the disabled every year. The purpose is to create a foundation for the disabled to directly express their daily lives and thoughts through content and communicate with society.\n<\/p>\n
Anyone with disabilities can participate in the contest, which marks its eighth anniversary this year. It is also possible to form a team of up to four people with non-disabled people. The field of entry is improvement of disability awareness, environment, and safety in daily life.\n<\/p>\n
This year, a new safety sector was created to reflect the increased interest in safety in society as a whole. The safety problems experienced by the disabled in daily life, such as movement, facility use, and working environment, were included in the eyes of the parties. Contents produced using generative artificial intelligence will also receive a separate special award. The purpose is to expand opportunities to utilize new technologies in the video production process.\n<\/p>\n
Since May, POSCO DX has been conducting online video production training for 390 people with disabilities. Welfare centers and special schools in Pohang, Gwangyang, Seoul, and Yongin have set up filming studios and provided equipment and props. Participants can experience directly from planning to shooting and editing in an actual production environment.\n<\/p>\n
A follow-up program is also operated so that it is not limited to one-time training. In June, Odaesan National Park’s Woljeongsa Temple held a growth program to enhance content production capabilities for outstanding participants in the previous competition. It is a structure that supports participants to continue their creator activities even after winning the prize.\n<\/p>\n
Participants’ interest is also steadily increasing. A total of 369 works were received at last year’s contest. Initially, contents that delivered messages to improve disability awareness were centered, but recently, materials such as daily life, hobbies, jobs, and environment are also diversifying. They say that the disabled are not only appearing as people who receive help, but as producers who plan content and deliver messages.\n<\/p>\n
This year’s contest will be open until the 31st of this month. Excellent works that have been judged will be unveiled at the awards ceremony in early November. It will present the Minister of Science and ICT Award, the Minister of Health and Welfare Award, the Minister of Climate, Energy and Environment Award, the Minister of Public Administration and Security Award, the POSCO DX President Award, and the National Park Service Chairman Award.\n<\/p>\n
POSCO DX believes that as the one-person media market expands, people with disabilities will have more opportunities to promote their experiences and capabilities through content. An official from POSCO DX said, “We plan to continue to operate education, contests, and follow-up growth programs so that people with disabilities can learn video production skills and communicate with society from their own perspective.”\n<\/p>\n
