Within two years, Russians could be left without the internet they are accustomed to, as Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin is preparing a system that has long been in place in North Korea. And this is only part of what he has learned from Kim Jong Un, according to Andrii Kovalenko<\/a>, head of the Center for Countering Disinformation.<\/p>\n

The Russian leader is adopting the experience of the North Korean regime.<\/p>\n

In particular, the internet restrictions that Russians will experience over the next two years will fully replicate the system already operating in North Korea. Russians themselves do not even realize this yet.<\/p>\n

Why Pyongyang needs experience from the war in Ukraine<\/p>\n

North Korea itself is interested in gaining practical experience in modern warfare by observing Russia”s combat operations against Ukraine.<\/p>\n

This experience could be useful to Pyongyang if the country decides to launch its own phase of aggression on the Korean Peninsula.<\/p>\n

Window of opportunity amid the US-Iran confrontation<\/p>\n

Analysts suggest that Pyongyang may see the current moment as an opportunity to act.<\/p>\n

“Japan and South Korea will have to take greater responsibility for security. One way or another, an authoritarian madman is sitting in Pyongyang who is extremely similar to Putin,” Kovalenko’s statement said.<\/p>\n

What is known about previous cooperation between Russia and North Korea<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, on August 6, it became known that North Korea had transferred a batch of more than 100 ballistic missiles and specialized missile units to Russia.<\/p>\n

A report by the Institute for the Study of War said that this would allow Pyongyang to test its own weapons under real combat conditions<\/a>.<\/p>\n

On August 9, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Russia plans to deploy between 30,000 and 50,000 North Korean troops on its territory<\/a>.<\/p>\n
