Yonhap News

South Korea’s KOSDAQ market has recovered quickly since regulators tightened rules on single-stock leveraged products on the 31st of last month. Over seven trading sessions, the market triggered four sidecars — temporary suspensions of program-buying orders — and jumped 209.69 points.

Analysts read the move as the start of a full rotation out of large-cap semiconductor stocks and into KOSDAQ growth names such as chip materials, parts and equipment makers and biotech firms. They cautioned, however, that the market must accelerate structural improvements to reclaim its previous high.

The KOSDAQ closed at 854.47, up 55.66 points, or 6.97%, from the previous session, according to the Korea Exchange (KRX). That marks a 32.5% surge from 644.78 on the 30th of last month, the last trading day before the leverage rules took effect. The index rose in six of the seven sessions during that period.

Gains were broad. Of the 1,820 companies listed on the KOSDAQ, 1,431 advanced and only 236 fell. All 30 of the top companies by market value rose, from top-ranked Alteogen to 30th-ranked Hyundai Movex. Alteogen and Ecopro jumped 14% and 8.72%, respectively, from the previous session.

Institutional investors have driven the KOSDAQ this month. They bought a net 1.52 trillion won worth of shares over the seven sessions, including 519.1 billion won on the day, an overwhelming show of buying power. Among institutions, financial investment firms led with 537.3 billion won. Foreign investors also bought a net 105.4 billion won worth of shares on the day.

Analysts said an “investment spillover effect” has emerged as funds once concentrated in single-stock leveraged products flowed into KOSDAQ-related exchange-traded funds (ETFs) and similar vehicles.

Brokerages expect the improved supply-demand balance to keep the KOSDAQ warm for the time being but said policy momentum, such as delisting troubled companies, must provide support.

“As volatility in Samsung Electronics and SK hynix eases, supply and demand are concentrating across the KOSDAQ market,” said Lee Kun-jae, head of the research center at IBK Investment & Securities. “Bets on chip materials-parts-equipment and biotech are expanding.”

The Kospi and Kosdaq indexes are displayed on an electronic board at Hana Bank’s dealing room in Jung-gu,…

[457
15215,337,336,32228,864,59544,59545,29774
post-115500","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-korea-exchange","tag-institutional-investors","tag-korea-exchange","tag-kosdaq","tag-kosdaq-etf","tag-krx","tag-leverage-regulation","tag-semiconductor-rotation","tag-single-stock-leveraged-products
["GET
