{"id":116000,"date":"2026-08-11T18:18:13","date_gmt":"2026-08-11T18:18:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/korea\/116000\/"},"modified":"2026-08-11T18:18:13","modified_gmt":"2026-08-11T18:18:13","slug":"russian-attacks-kill-10-in-ukraine-as-zelenskyy-says-moscow-is-getting-more-north-korean-missiles-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/korea\/116000\/","title":{"rendered":"Russian attacks kill 10 in Ukraine as Zelenskyy says Moscow is getting more North Korean missiles"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>KYIV, Ukraine (AP) \u2014 Russia attacked Ukrainian cities with missiles, drones and glide bombs Tuesday, killing at least 10 civilians, officials said, as President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Moscow is getting new military help from North Korea for its more than <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/hub\/russia-ukraine\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">4-year-old invasion.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Zelenskyy said Russian forces used ballistic missiles supplied by North Korea in an overnight attack on the southeastern city of Zaporizhzhia, where a company said seven workers at its steel plant were killed and 21 injured.<\/p>\n<p>Three more people, including a 15-year-old boy, were killed by Russian drones and artillery in the central Dnipropetrovsk region, authorities said.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the ballistic missiles, North Korea is preparing to deploy <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/north-korea-russia-ukraine-memorial-museum-7c010fe1ded78fc45167c4fbab17ec92\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">more of its troops<\/a> to Russia, Zelenskyy said late Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un signed a <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/vladimir-putin-kim-jong-un-russia-north-korea-summit-ukraine-a6b8d2c12de7ee2ab6716d4747c9850e\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">strategic partnership agreement<\/a> in 2024, pledging mutual aid if either country faces aggression.<\/p>\n<p>Kim has sent thousands of troops and <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/north-korea-russia-ukraine-artillery-f16f8a95fc6b4314c52d4a9271c3632d\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">huge supplies of weapons<\/a> to support Putin\u2019s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Some experts say the engagement with Moscow is helping improve North Korea\u2019s military capabilities, and Zelenskyy said the battlefield experience would help Pyongyang menace other countries in its region.<\/p>\n<p>Ukraine says Russia is poised to escalate the war<\/p>\n<p>Ukraine says Russia is scaling up its production of ballistic missiles, aiming to exploit Kyiv\u2019s <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/russia-ukraine-war-ballistic-interceptors-patriot-shortage-a633c337971e99d6f4496d2754b5aa5c\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">critical shortage<\/a> of Patriot air defense interceptors that can stop them, and claims Moscow is preparing to recruit more troops for a new push on the front line that stretches 1,250 kilometers (775 miles) along eastern and southern Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvery step Russia takes \u2014 increasing ballistic missile production, bringing in North Korean equipment, preparing for mobilization \u2014 all of this shows that Moscow is preparing not for peace, but for escalation,\u201d Zelenskyy said on social media.<\/p>\n<p>In an unusual step, Ukraine\u2019s air force didn\u2019t say in its daily report how many missiles Russia launched overnight. It was not clear whether the omission was deliberate, and Kyiv officials made no immediate comment.<\/p>\n<p>U.S.-led diplomatic efforts to stop the war have fizzled as Washington grew frustrated with the lack of progress and its attention turned to the <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/hub\/iran\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Iran war<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>    <a class=\"AnchorLink\" id=\"html-embed-module-a00000\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\n    Sign up for Morning Wire:<br \/>\n    Our flagship newsletter breaks down the biggest headlines of the day.\n  <\/p>\n<p>In an indication that Putin is determined to press on with the invasion, Russia\u2019s highest court on Monday ordered that Yabloko, the only political party opposing the war, to be <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/russia-yabloko-political-party-parliament-election-fffdd68de22ad70cebc81e5aa308202c\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">excluded from the ballot<\/a> in the Sept. 18-20 parliamentary election.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Kremlin will not enter serious negotiations or make meaningful compromises on its demands as long as Putin believes that he has a viable military path to achieving his full objectives,\u201d the Institute for the Study of War, a Washington-based think tank, said in an analysis Monday. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cUkraine\u2019s Patriot shortages offer Russia an opportunity to cause very serious damage to Ukraine over the coming winter and will therefore contribute to delaying meaningful negotiations and protracting the war,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n<p>Russia hits the grounds of a Kyiv children\u2019s hospital<\/p>\n<p>Russian forces also struck parts of the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, overnight, according to officials. One strike hit the grounds of a children\u2019s hospital, leaving two craters and shattering windows, the State Emergency Service said. Children and medical workers were in bomb shelters and nobody was hurt, it added.<\/p>\n<p>At another location in Kyiv, a Russian strike started a fire in a warehouse that spread across about 1,200 square meters (nearly 13,000 square feet), according to emergency officials.<\/p>\n<p>The Russian Defense Ministry said its forces overnight struck \u201cmilitary industrial facilities and transport and logistics centers\u201d in Kyiv and Zaporizhzhia with \u201cground-based precision weapons.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It said in a statement that it hit civilian storage facilities housing drones in Kyiv and a metallurgical plant in Zaporizhzhia.<\/p>\n<p>Metinvest, a major Ukrainian mining and metals company with operations in Zaporizhzhia, said seven of its steel plant employees died as staff tried to reach shelters after a warning of an incoming ballistic missile.<\/p>\n<p>The company, which employs tens of thousands of people, said in a statement that the attack damaged its blast furnace and other equipment and forced the plant to shut down.<\/p>\n<p>Russia targeted Kyiv and Zaporizhzhia with Zircon anti-ship missiles and Iskander ballistic missiles, while launching 120 long-range strike drones across the country, Ukraine\u2019s air force said.<\/p>\n<p>Russia\u2019s biggest e-commerce company hit again<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the Russian Defense Ministry said its air defenses overnight intercepted nearly 400 Ukrainian drones over 14 regions and Crimea, the peninsula that Moscow illegally annexed from Kyiv in 2014.<\/p>\n<p>Russia\u2019s biggest online retailer, Wildberries, said in a statement its logistical facilities in the Voronezh region on the border with Ukraine came under attack and caught fire. It added that the fire was extinguished and goods stored there were \u201clargely undamaged.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ukraine has repeatedly struck Wildberries warehouses and has also bombarded Russian oil facilities in what it says is a strategy to compel Putin to negotiate an end to the invasion.<\/p>\n<p>Ukraine\u2019s General Staff said its forces struck an oil refinery in the city of Orsk in Russia\u2019s Orenburg region near the border with Kazakhstan, about 1,500 kilometers (930 miles) from Ukraine, causing a fire.<\/p>\n<p>The refinery, with an annual processing capacity of about 44 million barrels of crude oil, produces gasoline, diesel and aviation fuel, among other products. The extent of the damage was being assessed, the military said.<\/p>\n<p>UN says over 16,000 civilians are being held by Russia<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/ukraine-russia-war-united-nations-detainees-prisoners-6687451c1d1170e57ac2db32695e3d61\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The United Nations, meanwhile, estimates<\/a> that more than <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/russia-ukraine-war-civilian-captives-international-law-3cf2c2d7df58eaa6e1e520254c240d5a\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">16,000 civilians detained<\/a> by Russia during the war are still being \u201cdeprived of their liberty,\u201d with many held incommunicado and on grounds that don\u2019t comply with international law.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWidespread and systematic torture and ill-treatment\u201d of both Ukrainian civilian detainees and prisoners of war by Russia are continuing, including <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/israel-sexual-assault-conflict-zone-gaza-united-nations-c5d5c8300dd671d0e5cd1594c1da2006\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">sexual violence<\/a>, said Claudia Fuentes Julio, the U.N. assistant secretary-general for human rights.<\/p>\n<p>She spoke at an informal meeting of the U.N.
