Smart money reads &#8216;MAGA Meg&#8217; for LG"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The most interesting name on Byron Donalds\u2019 latest press release is the one that isn\u2019t on it.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Eight days out from the Primary, the Donalds campaign on Monday rolled out county chairs from the Panhandle to South Florida, a roster of Sheriffs, legislators and local heavyweights built for a front-runner already thinking about November.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Hold that roster up against the running-mate shortlist <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/newsletters\/florida-playbook\/2026\/07\/07\/a-look-at-the-donalds-lg-names-being-floated-00988484\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer nofollow\">POLITICO\u2019s Kimberly Leonard assembled last month<\/a> from a dozen GOP operatives: U.S. Rep. Kat Cammack, Sens. Ana Maria Rodriguez and Bryan \u00c1vila, and Reps. Fiona McFarland and Meg Weinberger.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Rodriguez is now Donalds\u2019 Monroe County chair. McFarland got Sarasota. A county chairmanship is a fine title, but it\u2019s the kind you give someone who isn\u2019t getting the other one.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Weinberger is nowhere on the list. Palm Beach, her home county, went to Larry Snowden and Linda Stoch.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bipc.com\/\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer nofollow\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-726047\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/korea\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/FLGR-Ad-728x90-RESULTS-Set-1-e1741815738516.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"728\" height=\"90\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The blank space tracks with what Florida Politics is hearing: sources in Weinberger\u2019s orbit and in the White House political operation both say President Donald Trump has urged Donalds to give her a serious look for the No. 2 slot. The Palm Beach Republican, \u201cMAGA Meg\u201d to her followers, stood beside Trump in January as he unveiled the <a href=\"https:\/\/floridianpress.com\/2026\/06\/maga-meg-weinberger-floridas-next-lt-governor\/\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer nofollow\">President Donald Trump Boulevard<\/a> signage at Mar-a-Lago, a renaming she carried through the Legislature. The Floridian\u2019s Javier Manjarres reported in June that she sits atop Donalds\u2019 list.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Cammack and \u00c1vila were left off Monday\u2019s roster too, and FP is hearing that Cammack is interested in the job, so Meg-for-LG is far from a done deal.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Under <a href=\"https:\/\/m.flsenate.gov\/Statutes\/99.063\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer nofollow\">state law<\/a>, Donalds has until nine days after the Aug. 18 Primary to name a running mate, and until then he\u2019ll keep saying no decision has been made. Maybe so. But nearly everyone on the shortlist just picked up a title, and the one who didn\u2019t has Trump in her corner.
