Hyundai Motor and Kia

Hyundai Motor Group (005380.KS) aims to become the company that uses artificial intelligence most effectively in the world rather than the one that uses it the most, Chief ICT Officer Chang Eun-sook said, as the group detailed years of work embedding AI across its operations.

“Hyundai Motor Group’s goal is not to be the company that uses AI the most, but to be the company that uses AI best anywhere in the world,” Chang, president for ICT at Hyundai Motor and Kia, said at the group’s AI transformation, or AX, results presentation held at its Yangjae headquarters in Seocho-gu, Seoul. “We plan to keep responding to technological change ahead of the curve and to set new standards for the future mobility industry.”

Chang said the group has expanded AX by embedding intelligence technologies, including AI, on the foundation of the digital transformation, or DX, it has pursued for years. “The data, operational experience and execution capabilities we have accumulated through AX will be the strongest foundation for preparing for the coming era of physical AI,” she said. “We will continue to strengthen our ability to learn new technologies fastest, apply them in the field, and connect them to customer value and business results.”

The group laid out the company-wide DX and AX process it has advanced in stages since 2019, along with its future direction. Hyundai Motor Group has been fleshing out its company-wide DX strategy since Executive Chairman Euisun Chung said in 2018 that the group would become “a company that is more of an IT company than IT companies.”

In research and development, the group is building an environment that uses AI to search and draw on decades of accumulated crash test data and research materials more quickly. A leading example is its Crash Safety AI Assistant. The system integrates research information that had been scattered across multiple systems — past crash test results, test images and analysis materials — into a single search, and helps engineers quickly find, compare and analyze similar cases.

In the past, engineers often relied on their own experience and know-how, making it hard to verify needed information quickly; now they can rapidly find and use research results and cases. A Hyundai Motor Group official said engineers have cut the time spent searching for related cases and reviewing analysis materials by about 90%, and are using the freed-up time for higher-value work such as interpreting analysis results, improving designs and setting test strategies.

On the manufacturing floor, an AI Automated Recognition Service and a dolly alignment optimization technology are improving quality control and operational efficiency in production. The AI Automated Recognition Service is a vision-AI solution that verifies in real time whether a vehicle entering the production process matches the vehicle information registered in the system, based on its vehicle identification number (VIN). Using cameras installed on the production line and AI image recognition to read the VIN automatically and catch work errors early, it is delivering annual cost savings of 5.24 billion won ($3.8 million) across the global Hyundai Motor and Kia (000270.KS) production plants.

The dolly alignment optimization technology is a solution in which AI automatically optimizes the complex movement routes that arise in the dolly process supplying parts to the production line. Previously, when the dolly sequence became tangled due to equipment errors, workers had to judge and restore the routes themselves; the technology now derives the optimal route automatically, cutting unnecessary production downtime by about 86%.

The group added that in the service area, a large language model (LLM)-based repair support AI service has cut repair response time by about 42%, while a customer review response automation solution has sharply reduced the processing time per review from an average of 35 minutes to about five minutes.

Hyundai Motor Group is also expanding DX and AX in its employees’ work environment. Since 2022, it has successively adopted Jira and Dooray, platforms for systematically managing work progress and decisions; Confluence, which supports collaborative document writing and knowledge sharing; and Microsoft 365, Microsoft’s cloud-based collaboration platform.

In 2025, it launched H Chat Pro, an in-house generative AI platform. H Chat Pro is Hyundai Motor Group’s dedicated AI platform that lets employees choose and use various external generative AI models, such as ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude, in a secure environment. In July, the number of H Chat Pro users surpassed 30,000, equivalent to about 80% of general and research staff at Hyundai Motor and Kia.

A Hyundai Motor Group official said the group plans to keep pursuing work innovation based on data and AI, and to continue connecting the competitiveness accumulated through AX to customer value, leading innovation in the coming era of physical AI beyond the current AI era.

Jin Eun-sook, President of ICT at Hyundai Motor and Kia, speaks at the “Hyundai Motor Group AX Achievement…

[24
5466,2588,59928,59930,59929,295,294,293,703
post-116316","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-hyundai","tag-ai-transformation","tag-artificial-intelligence","tag-chang-eun-sook","tag-crash-safety-ai","tag-h-chat-pro","tag-hyundai","tag-hyundai-group","tag-hyundai-motor-group","tag-kia
["GET
