Coming after a first-quarter improvement, the results point to a clearer earnings recovery.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-[var(--color-text)] leading-relaxed\">The retailer said in a regulatory filing on the 13th that it posted preliminary revenue of 150.9 billion won and an operating profit of 15.1 billion won for the second quarter. Revenue rose 18.9% from a year earlier, and operating profit turned positive. Net profit also swung into the black at 5.1 billion won.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-[var(--color-text)] leading-relaxed\">Operating profit rose even further from the 12.3 billion won recorded in the first quarter. The company is seen as having moved past the consumer slump that persisted through last year, recovering profitability quickly alongside revenue growth.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-[var(--color-text)] leading-relaxed\">The turnaround was driven by demand for high-end goods, centered on luxury products, and rising sales to foreign customers. As luxury and fashion spending revives across South Korea&#8217;s department store industry, increased spending by foreign tourists visiting the country is seen as adding to sales growth at key stores.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-[var(--color-text)] leading-relaxed\">&#8220;Profit improved noticeably thanks to luxury demand and rising sales to foreign customers,&#8221; a Hanwha Galleria official said. &#8220;We will work harder to develop new content and strengthen services so that we can sustain this momentum.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Exterior view of Hanwha Galleria&#8217;s Luxury Hall EAST.
