Yonhap News

South Korea’s stock market capitalization surpassed 7,000 trillion won for the first time, just eight trading days after crossing the 6,000 trillion won threshold. The KOSPI has continued its rally driven by semiconductor stocks, rapidly expanding the size of the domestic equity market.

According to the Korea Exchange (KRX), the combined market capitalization of the KOSPI and KOSDAQ stood at 7,037.7977 trillion won as of 10:08 a.m. Tuesday. It was the first time the combined market cap of the two bourses exceeded 7,000 trillion won.

By market, the KOSPI’s market capitalization reached 6,367.0006 trillion won, while the KOSDAQ’s stood at 670.7971 trillion won. Large-cap semiconductor stocks such as Samsung Electronics (005930.KS) and SK hynix (000660.KS) led the KOSPI’s advance, while the KOSDAQ also extended its strength on the back of secondary battery and biotech shares.

As of 10:17 a.m., the KOSPI was trading at 7,803.67, up 305.67 points, or 4.08%, from the previous session. The index briefly climbed above the 7,800 level during the session, showing strong upward momentum. Among large-cap stocks, SK hynix surged more than 10% and Samsung Electronics rose more than 5%. SK hynix briefly topped 1.9 million won per share in early trading.

The domestic stock market capitalization had first exceeded 6,000 trillion won on Oct. 27. Market watchers cited foreign capital inflows, expectations of improving semiconductor industry conditions, and a recovery in risk appetite as factors behind the surge.

The Kospi and other indexes are displayed on a monitor at the dealing room of Hana Bank’s headquarters…

[457
337,341,336,278,864,274,276,279,275
0":"post-11838","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-korea-exchange","8":"tag-korea-exchange","9":"tag-korea-stock-market","10":"tag-kosdaq","11":"tag-kospi-rally","12":"tag-krx","13":"tag-market-capitalization","14":"tag-samsung-electronics","15":"tag-semiconductor-stocks","16":"tag-sk-hynix
["GET
