This is the result of a sharp drop in transaction prices in the second quarter due to the slump in the virtual asset market, and various unfavorable factors such as massive disposal losses of virtual assets held.

On the 14th, Bithumb’s operating profit in the second quarter of this year was 86.2898 billion won, down 35.8% from the same period last year (13,4428.91 million won).

Among them, transaction commission income was 86.28 billion won, accounting for virtually most of the total operating income, while other sales, such as lending services and market inquiry fees, were only 3.8 million won.

Analysts say that the revenue of transaction fees decreased sharply compared to the same period last year, reflecting the shrinking trend of domestic virtual asset transactions.

Operating expenses in the second quarter were 74.2226 billion won, down 34.2% from the same period last year (1128.8898 billion won). Sales promotion expenses plunged to 16.74 billion won, one-third of the same period last year (KRW 50 billion 820.4 million), and payment fees also fell slightly from the same period last year (KRW 23.62 billion).

However, the cost structure still acted as a burden as salaries (161.2345 billion won) and advertising expenses (3.688.09 billion won) did not decrease by the drop in sales. As a result, operating profit in the second quarter fell 44% year-on-year to 12.067.24 billion won.

The main reason for the net loss in the second quarter is the loss of disposal of virtual assets held by non-operating profits and losses.

Non-operating expenses in the second quarter nearly tripled from the same period last year (12084.42 billion won) to 36.16 billion won. In particular, losses incurred in disposing of self-acquired virtual assets amounted to KRW 10.99 billion, more than doubling from the same period last year (4.79 billion won).

On top of that, losses from the equity method of KRW 3630.13 million and losses from virtual asset valuation of KRW 560.19 million overlapped. Interest expenses also increased to 12.66 billion won, compared to the same period last year (9.38 billion won), increasing the burden of borrowing. On the other hand, non-operating profits remained at 11.54 billion won, similar to the same period last year (13046.78 million won).

As a result, the net loss in the second quarter was 21.08 billion won, completely turning into a deficit from a net profit of 22 billion 2319 million won a year earlier.

However, compared to the first quarter, which reflected large-scale fines from financial authorities, the amount of losses has decreased significantly in the second quarter.

Excluding Bithumb’s cumulative net loss of KRW 108.69134 billion in the first half of the year and a net loss of KRW 21.08 billion in the second quarter, the net loss in the first quarter reached KRW 86.8829 billion.

This was largely due to the fact that 36.873.5 billion won in fines imposed by the Financial Information Analysis Institute (FIU) on Bithumb in March for violating the Special Financial Transaction Information Act were collectively reflected as “miscellaneous losses” in the first quarter’s income statement.

In fact, only 81.12 million won was reflected in the second quarter of the cumulative loss of 37.1637 billion won in the first half, with most of the rest concentrated in the first quarter.

Losses on disposal of virtual assets also accounted for 10.09 billion won in the second quarter out of 73.358 billion won accumulated in the first half, with the remaining 62.35 billion won incurred in the first quarter.

As of the end of the first half of the year, Bithumb’s membership deposit was KRW 1.31959834 trillion, down KRW 715.6 billion from the end of last year (2.35179 million won). The company’s virtual asset valuation was also KRW 19.49 billion, down from KRW 27.93 billion at the end of last year.

Q2 Operating Profit 86.2 Billion…35.8% YoY plungeLitigation provision liabilities of 39.5 billion and Coin disposal losses of 73.4…

[457
61672,61673,337,864,50803,61676,61675,61674,1157
post-119215","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-korea-exchange","tag-deficit-conversion","tag-disposal-losses","tag-korea-exchange","tag-krx","tag-operating-income","tag-provisional-liabilities-for-litigation","tag-semi-annual-reports","tag-transaction-fees","tag-virtual-assets
["GET
