LG<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-[var(--color-text)] leading-relaxed\">The &#8220;AI alliance&#8221; signed by LG (003550.KS) Chairman Kwang-mo Koo and Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang centers on combining the two companies&#8217; respective strengths to pursue joint businesses in the global market, as the arena of AI competition rapidly expands beyond data centers into the physical world.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"null - Seoul Economic Daily Finance News from South Korea\" title=\"LG, Nvidia Team Up to Build Physical AI Across Robots, Factories, Cars\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" class=\"w-full h-auto rounded-sm\" style=\"color:transparent;object-fit:contain;object-position:center\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/korea\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/news-g.v1.20260814.4c0657150b1f4226bbfd0394c6f55c16_P1.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-[var(--color-text)] leading-relaxed\">The plan is to merge LG&#8217;s capabilities in manufacturing, components and services with Nvidia&#8217;s AI &#8220;brain&#8221; to set the standard for the physical AI industry \u2014 spanning data centers, humanoid robots and mobility \u2014 and to capture the market early.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-[var(--color-text)] leading-relaxed\">The two first met in June at the LG Twin Towers in Seoul&#8217;s Yeouido district, where they confirmed the potential for and direction of cooperation. Working-level teams then fleshed out the details, and the two sides have now agreed to push ahead in earnest across three main areas: robots, AI factories and mobility. LG and Nvidia plan to form a joint task force to accelerate cooperation from research and development to field validation and commercialization.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-[var(--color-text)] leading-relaxed\">The area expected to show results first in the strategic alliance is humanoid robots. LG is developing a bipedal humanoid reference robot using Nvidia&#8217;s humanoid foundation model, Isaac GR00T, targeting an unveiling in the first quarter of next year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-[var(--color-text)] leading-relaxed\">Nvidia&#8217;s high-performance robotics computing platform, Jetson Thor, will serve as the robot&#8217;s brain, while hardware technology from LG affiliates will give the robot its physical form. To this end, LG Electronics will provide actuators, LG Innotek (011070.KS) sensors, and LG Energy Solution (373220.KS) battery technology.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-[var(--color-text)] leading-relaxed\">LG will also deploy a wheelbase-type humanoid robot, &#8220;LG CLOi,&#8221; on a washing machine production line at its factory in Tennessee, in the United States, before the end of this year, putting it through validation in an actual manufacturing environment. Data gathered on the factory floor will be used to advance the robot foundation model LG is developing in-house.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-[var(--color-text)] leading-relaxed\">The companies will also cooperate on technology for building a robot data factory using LG CNS&#8217;s robot platform, PhysicalWorks. The two sides plan to continue discussions on building and operating a &#8220;physical AI data factory&#8221; that repeatedly performs everything from data collection and generation to training and validation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-[var(--color-text)] leading-relaxed\">The two companies will also collaborate to build &#8220;AI factories&#8221; around the world. The AI factory Nvidia envisions goes beyond conventional data centers that simply store data \u2014 it is a next-generation AI infrastructure model that mass-produces &#8220;intelligence,&#8221; AI&#8217;s core output. Just as a factory processes raw materials into products, an AI factory trains and infers from data to produce AI intelligence that can be applied to real business.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-[var(--color-text)] leading-relaxed\">To take an early lead in the global AI factory market, the two companies will combine Nvidia&#8217;s DSX architecture with LG Electronics&#8217; cooling technology, LG Energy Solution&#8217;s batteries, the design and operation capabilities of LG CNS and LG Uplus, and LS&#8217;s power solutions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-[var(--color-text)] leading-relaxed\">In the first half of next year, LG will build a reference site based on Nvidia&#8217;s next-generation AI platform &#8220;Vera Rubin&#8221; to validate cooling, power and IT. In the first half of 2028, it plans to complete an 80-megawatt AI factory in Cheonan, South Chungcheong Province, to be used for tasks such as advancing its robot foundation model. Through this, LG aims to validate its own AI infrastructure capabilities while strengthening its competitiveness in winning orders in the global AI data center market going forward.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-[var(--color-text)] leading-relaxed\">In mobility, the companies will combine Nvidia&#8217;s &#8220;Drive Hyperion&#8221; with LG&#8217;s in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) and software capabilities to develop a high-performance computing platform for next-generation AI-defined vehicles (AIDVs).<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-[var(--color-text)] leading-relaxed\">LG plans to expand its automotive electronics business, currently centered on IVI, into self-driving by using Nvidia&#8217;s AI-based autonomous driving technology and vehicle computing platform. The strategy is to supply next-generation vehicle solutions that integrate self-driving functions with in-car AI services to global automakers (OEMs), securing a new growth engine in the mobility market.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-[var(--color-text)] leading-relaxed\">Industry observers see this memorandum of understanding (MOU) as marking a step up in the LG-Nvidia relationship, from simple technical cooperation to that of &#8220;joint business partners.&#8221; In particular, some assess that as Chairman Koo&#8217;s &#8220;One LG&#8221; strategy combines with Nvidia&#8217;s physical AI ecosystem, LG has laid the groundwork to broaden its reach beyond home appliances and automotive electronics to become an industrial infrastructure provider in the AI era.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-[var(--color-text)] leading-relaxed\">Huang said the most important opportunity offered by physical AI lies in giving every machine the ability to understand and reason about the real world and to act safely alongside people. &#8220;This will transform our daily lives, from the home to the factory floor to the road,&#8221; he said.
