SEOUL, Aug 15 (Reuters) – Russian President Vladimir Putin told North Korean leader Kim Jong Un that Moscow and \u200cPyongyang were cooperating across all areas and coordinating efforts \u200cto ensure regional security and stability, North Korean state media KCNA reported on \u200bSaturday.<\/p>\n
Putin said in a message to Kim marking the anniversary of Korea’s liberation from Japanese colonial rule that he was confident Russia and North Korea would continue “constructive joint work” on bilateral \u200cand international issues, KCNA \u2060said.<\/p>\n
Kim had visited Pyongyang’s Liberation Tower on Friday to pay tribute to Soviet soldiers who fought Japan \u2060in World War Two, KCNA reported. A wreath at the tower in Kim’s name bore the words: “We do not forget the \u200bfeats of \u200bthe Soviet army martyrs.”<\/p>\n
Kim said \u200bthe legacy of blood \u200cties and combat friendship between the two countries had become a cornerstone of their expanding relations, KCNA reported.<\/p>\n
Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev also sent Kim greetings, KCNA said.<\/p>\n
The messages and Kim’s visit underscore deepening ties between Moscow and Pyongyang that have \u200cdrawn international concern over North Korea’s support \u200bfor Russia’s war in Ukraine.<\/p>\n
Ukrainian President \u200bVolodymyr Zelenskiy has repeatedly \u200bsaid Russia uses North Korean missiles against Ukraine \u200cand has accused Pyongyang of \u200bproviding Moscow with \u200bmissiles and ammunition and promised more troops for the war effort.<\/p>\n
Analysts have said Pyongyang is seeking to frame Northeast \u200bAsia as a \u200ccontest between rival blocs to justify its weapons programmes \u200band strengthen backing from Beijing and Moscow.<\/p>\n
