US President Donald Trump struck a conciliatory tone over his relationship with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, saying the two \u201cget along GREAT” despite years of hostile rhetoric, failed denuclearisation talks and threats of nuclear confrontation.<\/p>\n

\u201cDespite the unfriendly look on this particular picture, there are many where we\u2019re smiling, Kim Jong Un and I get along GREAT!” Trump said in a post on his social media platform Truth Social.<\/p>\n

Trump shared a photograph of himself walking alongside Kim Jong Un during their historic 2018 summit in Singapore. He had previously posted the same photograph on June 14, 2026, without a caption or comment.<\/p>\n

Trump-Kim Jong Un\u2019s Relationship Over The Years<\/p>\n

Trump and Kim Jong Un held three meetings during Trump\u2019s first presidency. Their 2018 Singapore summit marked the first-ever meeting between a sitting US President and a North Korean leader.\u00a0Their diplomacy, however, later stalled. A second summit in Hanoi in 2019 ended without an agreement after Washington and Pyongyang failed to bridge differences over North Korea\u2019s nuclear programme and sanctions relief.<\/p>\n

Trump has since signalled that he remains open to restarting direct engagement with Kim Jong Un. In October 2025, he said he would \u201clove” to meet the North Korean leader again, although there were no concrete preparations for a meeting at the time and Pyongyang had not publicly responded.<\/p>\n

North Korea, however, has continued to reject calls to abandon its nuclear arsenal. In July, Pyongyang condemned the United States and its allies following the NATO summit, accusing them of intensifying military confrontation and vowing to safeguard its sovereignty and security through its own military capabilities.<\/p>\n
