According to the outlet, the incident occurred last week in an eastern frontline area of the Military Demarcation Line (MDL). A group of North Korean soldiers crossed the border while patrolling the demilitarized zone.<\/p>\n

In response, South Korean troops followed established operational procedures:<\/p>\n

Warning broadcasts are issued first if North Korean forces approach the demarcation line
\n\tWarning shots are then fired if they actually cross the border. <\/p>\n

After the shots were fired, the North Korean troops withdrew, and no other unusual activity was detected in the area.<\/p>\n

These were the first warning shots fired by the South Korean military in response to a border violation in 2026.<\/p>\n

The situation along the inter-Korean border remains tense.<\/p>\n

North Korean troops have regularly made brief incursions across the demarcation line in recent years as they actively build and reinforce defensive fortifications on their side.<\/p>\n

As previously reported, Seoul has been seeking to reduce military tensions through diplomatic initiatives. In particular, South Korean President Lee Jae Myung called on North Korea to begin talks to sign<\/a> a permanent peace agreement to replace the current armistice.<\/p>\n
