[Joint coverage]

Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon and Kwon Young-se, a lawmaker of People’s Power whose constituency is Yongsan, made clear their opposition to the Yongsan Park housing supply plan under consideration by the government on the 18th.

Mayor Oh and lawmaker Kwon met at Seoul City Hall on the same day to discuss the government’s housing supply plan and countermeasures for Yongsan Park.

The meeting was held at Kwon’s suggestion. Before the meeting, Representative Kwon said, “There is a story that if you tear down New York’s specialty Central Park and build an apartment, you will need a mental hospital as large as that,” adding, “Yongsan Park should be a landmark of Korea.”

“The military government will not think of dismantling Yongsan Park and hitting apartments without thinking of an alternative,” he said. “It should be blank.”

Mayor Oh also said, “As the national income increases, housing is needed, but green space and park area must be secured,” adding, “Even with the revision of the special law, building apartments in Yongsan Park cannot be a policy that a government can choose according to needs.”

After a closed-door meeting for about 30 minutes, the two agreed that it would be difficult to cooperate if the government unilaterally pushes for the policy.

Representative Kwon urged the withdrawal of the policy, citing the site of the Armed Forces Financial Management Team in Yongsan, the parking lot of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the accommodation of employees of the Bank of Korea in Huam-dong as alternative sites.

Mayor Oh also said at a Cabinet meeting presided over by President Lee Jae Myung on the same day, “Seoul Metropolitan Government cannot agree on the issue of converting even part of Yongsan Park, including Yongsan Children’s Garden, to the purpose of building apartments.”

He then expressed concern that if additional large-scale housing is supplied to Yongsan International Business District and Children’s Garden, “the traffic load in the vicinity will be unaffordable.”

Mayor Oh said he would meet with Land, Infrastructure and Transport Minister Kim Yoon-deok on the 20th to confirm the government’s specific plans and then determine the direction of response.

사진 확대 Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon is discussing housing supply in Yongsan Park and Yongsan International Business District…

[3
57817,63935,9487,112,27846,63770,50490,57911
post-123574","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-seoul","tag-central-park","tag-district-residents","tag-housing-supply","tag-seoul","tag-seoul-city-hall","tag-seoul-market","tag-yongsan-international-business-district","tag-yongsan-park
["GET
