Global commerce platform eBay said Tuesday that cross-border sales by Korean sellers reached a record high in the first quarter, posting double-digit year-on-year growth.

Korean sellers’ cross-border sales have now grown for six consecutive quarters since the fourth quarter of 2024, according to eBay.

The top-growing categories in the first quarter were building toys, drones, and K-pop-related products. The company attributed the notable growth of collectible-focused product categories to the global expansion of intellectual property (IP)-based fandom consumption.

K-pop-related products in particular recorded double-digit year-on-year sales growth in the first quarter, driven by expanded fandom demand as global idol groups including BTS and BLACKPINK returned with new releases. Demand concentrated on limited merchandise available only in Korea, such as items from pop-up stores, fan meetings, and lucky draw events, which drove category growth, the company said.

By artist, demand was concentrated on merchandise related to BTS, Stray Kids, BLACKPINK, TWICE, and ENHYPEN. BTS light sticks, in particular, ranked No. 1 in both global search volume and gross merchandise value (GMV) within the category, as anticipation grew for the group’s Gwanghwamun concert and world tour.

“As global consumption trends shift beyond simple purchases toward valuing scarcity and collectibility, transactions of fandom and collector items are expanding,” an eBay official said. “Korean sellers have quickly caught onto this trend and turned it into product competitiveness, continuing growth for six consecutive quarters. We plan to actively support their overseas sales expansion going forward.”

eBay’s Q1 data on cross-border sales by Korean sellers.
