Senior executives from both companies held a meeting at LG&#8217;s Data Factory within the Yangjae R&amp;D Campus in Seoul to review the direction of their partnership and explore ways to generate further synergies. The Data Factory is still under construction and is expected to be fully operational by the end of this year.<\/p>\n<p>Notably, LG Group and Nvidia had just signed a strategic partnership memorandum of understanding (MOU) on August 13 at Nvidia&#8217;s headquarters in Santa Clara, California, and the two sides met again in Seoul just four days later. The tightly packed schedule signals that both companies intend to move quickly on their strategic collaboration to accelerate the commercialization of robotics businesses.<\/p>\n<p>LG has already deployed its self-developed, field-proven LG CLOiD home robots at scale within the Data Factory to generate, collect, and learn from data. The facility features training spaces where robots perform various tasks, as well as dedicated zones for validating and optimizing the generated datasets. This includes a replicated home environment where LG CLOiD units learn and repeat cleaning tasks, and a simulated manufacturing space modeled after LG&#8217;s washing machine plant in Tennessee, where LG CLOiD units train on moving, stacking, and assembling components.<\/p>\n<p>These robots are also deployed in LG CNS&#8217;s logistics automation solutions and in dedicated spaces at LG Innotek for training robotic manipulators. Data collected in these environments will be connected to Nvidia&#8217;s robotics technology stack, where it will be augmented and synthesized into high-quality data for robot learning.<\/p>\n<p>Data Flywheel Strategy<\/p>\n<p>For LG, the core competitive edge in physical AI lies in the ability to build a &#8220;Data Flywheel&#8221;\u2014continuously acquiring high-quality data and using it to train robots for ongoing improvement. Integrating the detailed data LG has accumulated over decades of manufacturing and logistics operations with Nvidia&#8217;s robotics technology stack is expected to create a world-class data flywheel that will help LG stand out from the competition.<\/p>\n<p>The Data Factory is not only a space where robots collect data through physical learning but also a forward base for scaling, synthesizing, and augmenting robot learning data collected from LG&#8217;s global manufacturing and logistics sites and home appliances. From data to deployment, the entire pipeline leverages Nvidia&#8217;s physical AI technologies, including the Nvidia Omniverse libraries, Nvidia Cosmos world foundation models, and the open-source Nvidia Isaac robotics development platform.<\/p>\n<p>The Yangjae facility spans four floors\u2014one underground and three above ground\u2014with a total floor area of 10,000 square meters, and is expected to house hundreds of robots by the end of this year. LG also plans to continuously upgrade its data learning systems.<\/p>\n<p>By the end of this year, training data collected directly at the facility, combined with data synthesized and augmented using Nvidia Cosmos world foundation models, is expected to total 100,000 hours\u2014equivalent to roughly 12 years of data. LG plans to use this data to advance its Robot Foundation Model (RFM), which underpins the performance of humanoid robots.<\/p>\n<p>Organizational Restructuring and Market Positioning<\/p>\n<p>LG has designated this year as the starting point for advancing its robotics business and has been rapidly strengthening related capabilities. Last month, the company established a Robotics Business Center that reports directly to the CEO, tasked with overseeing robotics operations across the entire group and empowered to enhance execution and efficiency.<\/p>\n<p>LG has already built a strong presence in the industrial and commercial robotics markets and plans to expand into the home robotics segment. Leveraging its proven expertise in manufacturing and developing core robot components, including actuators, LG has achieved differentiated competitiveness spanning from components to complete products.
