{"id":126274,"date":"2026-08-20T10:22:11","date_gmt":"2026-08-20T10:22:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/korea\/126274\/"},"modified":"2026-08-20T10:22:11","modified_gmt":"2026-08-20T10:22:11","slug":"north-korea-launches-ballistic-missiles-as-trump-seeks-to-rekindle-nuclear-talks-with-kim-jong-un","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/korea\/126274\/","title":{"rendered":"North Korea launches ballistic missiles as Trump seeks to rekindle nuclear talks with Kim Jong Un"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Seoul\u00a0\u2014 North Korea fired several short-range ballistic missiles, Seoul&#8217;s military said Thursday, hours after President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/trump-kim-jong-un-north-korea-meeting-nuclear-weapons\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Trump said he would meet<\/a> again with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/feature\/north-korea-tensions\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un<\/a> later this year.<\/p>\n<p> The latest launches by the nuclear-armed North came after Mr. Trump ordered a reduction in the ongoing joint South Korea-U.S. Ulchi Freedom Shield military exercises, which are now set to end Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Pyongyang has long condemned U.S.-South Korean exercises as rehearsals for an invasion, often staging missile test launches during and around the drills.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Trump said he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/u-s-south-korea-cut-short-joint-military-drills-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">made the decision to scale back<\/a>\u00a0the war games &#8220;based on my very good relationship with&#8221; Kim.
