President Lee Jae Myung appointed Park Jung-sung, deputy trade minister at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, as the new trade minister on the 21st. Six days after the dismissal of former Trade Minister Yeo Han-gu on the 15th, he filled the gap and entrusted investment and tariff negotiations with the U.S. Amid the prospect of a cabinet reshuffle at the end of August, the vice minister-level appointment was carried out first.<\/p>\n

“He has been in charge of working-level customs and investment negotiations with the United States,” he said. “We judged him to be the right person to maintain continuity of negotiations and maximize national interests amid urgent trade issues with the United States.” Earlier, it was reported that Yeo stepped down due to personal issues unrelated to investment and tariffs in the U.S.<\/p>\n
