While Kakao has decided to split the company into Kakao AI and Kakao X, the members’ agitation seems to be subsiding as the policy to maintain employment conditions and working environment has been confirmed.

According to the information technology (IT) industry on the 21st, Kakao held a town hall meeting “Open Talk” at 10 a.m. on the same day and announced the reorganization of its core business, Kakao AI, a new corporation centered on KakaoTalk and Kana, and Kakao X, a surviving corporation in charge of managing and investing in affiliates.

Earlier, Kakao abruptly announced the open-talk schedule to its members at 6 p.m. the previous day. Kakao has opened Open Talk whenever it shares major management issues or deliveries, but it is unusual to notify the event a day in advance. As it did not disclose any specific topics of open talk, various speculations have been poured out, from rumors of a holding company conversion to an artificial intelligence (AI) division spin-off, the sale of affiliates, and a merger with Naver.

            <img decoding="async" loading="lazy" src="https://www.europesays.com/korea/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/1787321893_94_news-p.v1.20260821.8f741e552ff24ae29e623d783c12a63f_P1.png" orgwidth="700" orgheight="466" alt="Kakao founder Kim Bum-soo (left) and Kakao CEO Jung Shin-ah. [Kakao]

Kakao’s labor union also responded. The union said, “We have requested an official confirmation regarding the division of the company, but we have not received an answer, so we are preparing countermeasures for each scenario,” leaving open talks for members and the possibility of group action in Pangyo Station.

However, when the lid is opened, it seems to be stabilized. This is as Kakao promises to guarantee employment succession, working conditions, benefits, and work continuity even after the corporate division. In particular, most of the main business and existing personnel are moved to Kakao AI and the composition of the management is similar, so it is observed that the changes felt by working-level officials will be limited.

Multiple Kakao employees said, “It feels like only the company’s name has been changed to Kakao AI and Kakao X, and the atmosphere is not bad at the moment because Kakao Talk and AI are combined and sprayed,” adding, “The impact is insignificant because the most important task or work method has not changed.”

사진 확대 [Yonhap News] The tension, which had been heightened by Kakao’s surprise call-up of the town hall,…

[622
65483,1453,827,6225,65411
post-127892","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-kakao","tag-corporate-division","tag-information-technology","tag-kakao","tag-kakao-talk","tag-newly-established-corporation
["GET
