Donald Trump just announced that he is decreasing military exercises with South Korea, one of the United States’ long-standing allies, in order to increase favor with North Korea,<\/a> the leader of whom Trump feels he has a “very good relationship with.” This has caused outcry amongst American citizens, given the military threat that North Korea poses not only to the US, but to the world. Taking to Truth Social<\/a>, President Trump posted about his relationship with North Korean Dictator Kim Jong Un: “Based on my very good relationship with Kim Jong Un, of North Korea, I am not happy with the fact that the United States has, long ago, agreed to participate in Joint Military Exercises with South Korea,” he wrote.<\/p>\n

“These exercises are not only costly, with much of these costs paid for by the United States of America (as usual!), but send a signal that is totally inappropriate and hostile, to a Country that, as long as Donald J. Trump has been President, has been unthreatening and respectful,” he continued.<\/p>\n

“Therefore, and based on the fact that it is too late to cancel, I have instructed Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth, to substantially reduce the Joint Military Exercises!” he wrote. “While somewhat unrelated (?), I recently asked the President of South Korea if they would like to join us in the Denuclearization of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and they said, ‘No thanks!'”<\/p>\n

Across social media platforms, users were generally appalled by Trump’s choices. “Nothing says ‘strong on national security’ like slashing joint military drills with an actual ally because they wouldn’t help start a war, then turning around and calling a dictator with a missile program ‘respectful’,” one person wrote on Instagram. “Make it make sense.”<\/p>\n

“Absolutely an embarrassment<\/a> for the US,” another person posted.<\/p>\n

“He’s out of control, South Korea is one of our biggest political partners, he’s isolating the country because he lost a war of choice, it’s insane,” another agreed.<\/p>\n

“Well they both are dictators so understandable,” one comment reads.<\/p>\n

“So we’re fighting with Iran to prevent them from having nuclear weapons, but he’s okay with North Korea having nuclear weapons now?” questioned another user.<\/p>\n
