Samsung is making a small but important change to how Galaxy Store<\/a> purchases work on older Android devices. The company has notified Galaxy Store users that Samsung Checkout is changing its software requirements later this month.<\/p>\n

Galaxy Store payments will stop working on Android 4.x devices<\/p>\n

Starting August 25, 2026, Samsung Checkout will no longer support devices running Android 4.x or older. Users with such devices won\u2019t be able to make payments for Galaxy Store content or in-app purchases through Samsung Checkout.<\/p>\n

If an affected device is used to make a purchase after the deadline, Samsung says the transaction will be blocked. Instead, users will see a message asking them to update their phone\u2019s software and try again.<\/p>\n

The change is specifically tied to Samsung Checkout and payments. It doesn\u2019t necessarily mean that the Galaxy Store itself will stop working on these devices. However, users won\u2019t be able to buy paid content or make supported in-app purchases through Samsung\u2019s payment system.<\/p>\n

Samsung is asking affected users to update their devices to Android 5 or newer before the change takes effect. Devices that can officially run Android 5 or a later version should continue to support Samsung Checkout.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s a catch, though. Phones and tablets that are stuck on Android 4.x because their manufacturers never released a newer update won\u2019t have a way around the restriction. Samsung Checkout will simply stop working for them.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s unlikely to be a major headache for most Galaxy users, considering Android 4.x is more than a decade old. Still, the move shows how older devices can slowly fall by the wayside as modern services raise their software requirements.<\/p>\n
