{"id":131501,"date":"2026-08-25T12:07:10","date_gmt":"2026-08-25T12:07:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/korea\/131501\/"},"modified":"2026-08-25T12:07:10","modified_gmt":"2026-08-25T12:07:10","slug":"korea-selects-lee-chang-dongs-possible-love-as-oscar-contender","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/korea\/131501\/","title":{"rendered":"Korea Selects Lee Chang-dong\u2019s \u2018Possible Love\u2019 As Oscar Contender"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThe Korean Film Council (KOFIC) has selected <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/lee-chang-dong\/\" id=\"auto-tag_lee-chang-dong\" data-tag=\"lee-chang-dong\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Lee Chang-dong<\/a>\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/possible-love\/\" id=\"auto-tag_possible-love\" data-tag=\"possible-love\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Possible Love<\/a> as Korea\u2019s official entry for the Best International Feature category of the Academy Awards.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tNetflix, which financed and has international rights to the film, recently confirmed it will receive an Oscar-qualifying theatrical release in Korea, U.S. and other select territories following its premiere at the Venice and Toronto film festivals.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tKOFIC\u2019s selection committee praised the film for its \u201ccinematic completeness, the clarity of the director\u2019s message and its excellent mise-en-scene\u201d, also mentioning the strength with which Lee has portrayed the multidimensional characters and their complex relationships.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tLee\u2019s first film in eight years, Possible Love follows two married couples \u2013 a laid-off worker and his wife, and a documentary filmmaker and her husband \u2013 whose paths cross when the filmmaker sets out to film them, bringing both marriages face to face with their different lives and hidden desires.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tCo-produced by Anonymous Content and Korea\u2019s NOWFILM and Pinehouse Film, the film features a strong ensemble cast including Jeon Do-yeon, who previously worked with Lee on Secret Sunshine, Sul Kyung-gu, Zo In-sung and Cho Yeo-jeong.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tLee\u2019s 2018 Burning, which won the FIPRESCI Prize in Cannes, became the first Korean film shortlisted for an Oscar in the international feature category, although it didn\u2019t make the final nominations.
