The move represents a preemptive investment to move beyond the limits of conventional air cooling as the proliferation of generative AI drives surging power consumption and heat output from high-performance GPUs.<\/p>\n<p>The two companies announced on the 26th that they will apply DTC technology at the Samsong Data Center. The liquid cooling infrastructure is being built to enable Naver Cloud to stably operate Nvidia&#8217;s next-generation ultra-high-performance GPU, the &#8220;Vera Rubin,&#8221; which is owned by the National IT Industry Promotion Agency (NIPA) under South Korea&#8217;s Ministry of Science and ICT. The Vera Rubin is expected to deliver approximately 3.3 times the inference performance of the existing &#8220;Blackwell Ultra.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>DTC works by attaching a cold plate with circulating coolant directly onto the GPU chip to absorb heat. By leveraging liquid, which offers far higher heat transfer efficiency than air, the technology controls heat generation in high-density GPU servers. Conventional air cooling is limited to roughly 20\u201330 kilowatts (kW) of cooling capacity per rack, while Vera Rubin servers are expected to exceed 200kW of power density per rack. This is why liquid cooling methods like DTC are gaining attention as essential technology for realizing AI factories.<\/p>\n<p>As the contracted operator of the Samsong Data Center, LG CNS has already signed a colocation agreement with Naver Cloud. The Samsong Data Center, with total incoming power capacity of 80 megawatts (MW), is a facility owned by an asset management firm, with Naver Cloud as a tenant customer using a portion of the floor space. This DTC deployment marks the first time LG CNS has built a liquid cooling system in its data center business. Industry observers view it as the largest liquid cooling application in South Korea to date.<\/p>\n<p>LG CNS&#8217;s strategy is to combine its data center design, build, and operate (DBO) capabilities with AI infrastructure technology to deliver an integrated implementation spanning DTC liquid cooling, GPU server operating environments, power supply systems, and AI platform operations. Naver Cloud plans to leverage its AI platform operating expertise and large-scale GPU service experience to provide high-performance AI services to South Korean public institutions and enterprises. The two companies aim to complete liquid cooling infrastructure buildout and validation by next year.<\/p>\n<p>According to market research firm MarketsandMarkets, the global data center liquid cooling market is projected to grow from $4.07 billion (approximately 5.6 trillion won) in 2026 to $27.65 billion (approximately 38.2 trillion won) by 2033\u2014a nearly sevenfold expansion in just seven years.<\/p>\n<p>LG CNS intends to use the Samsong Data Center project as a springboard to formally enter the high-growth liquid cooling market. The company already operates data centers under contract both in South Korea and overseas, including in the United States and Europe, giving it the business scalability to extend liquid cooling deployments across domestic and international markets.<\/p>\n<p>Jo Heon-hyeok, Senior Vice President of LG CNS&#8217;s Data Center Business Division, said, &#8220;Data center cooling technology is becoming a core competitive differentiator for AI service quality and operational efficiency. Working with Naver Cloud, we will continue to build the critical infrastructure that underpins the growth of South Korea&#8217;s AI ecosystem, grounded in LG CNS&#8217;s strengths in data center DBO capabilities and next-generation cooling technology.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Separately, LG CNS has also signed a floor space leasing agreement with Naver Cloud for the Samsong Data Center.
