Yonhap News

Citigroup Global Markets Securities (Citi) sharply raised its target prices for Samsung Electronics (005930.KS) and SK hynix (000660.KS), the two largest stocks on Korea’s main bourse. The brokerage also lifted its earnings estimates for both companies as surging artificial intelligence (AI) demand is expected to drive continued gains in memory chip prices.

In a report released recently, Citi raised its target price on Samsung Electronics to 460,000 won from 300,000 won on the 12th. “Global memory prices are expected to maintain a continuous upward trend in the second half of this year,” Citi said. “Amid AI model development, memory suppliers’ pricing power is strengthening to unprecedented levels on the back of urgent procurement requests from customers.”

Earnings estimates were also raised sharply. Citi forecast Samsung Electronics’ annual revenue at 713.5 trillion won this year and 850.6 trillion won in 2027. The brokerage also raised its operating profit forecast to 331 trillion won for this year and 412 trillion won for 2027, up 8% and 17%, respectively, from its previous estimates. For the semiconductor division alone, Samsung’s core business, Citi projected 322.6 trillion won in operating profit this year.

Citi also raised its target price on SK hynix to 3.1 million won from 1.7 million won, while maintaining a buy rating. “Considering the expected rise in average selling prices (ASP) of commodity memory in the second half and the better-than-expected increase in high-bandwidth memory (HBM) prices, SK hynix is also expected to benefit,” Citi said. “This will more than offset the negative impact from weak smartphone demand.”

Citi forecast SK hynix’s annual operating profit at 251 trillion won this year and 347 trillion won in 2027.

KOSPI 7000 Era: ‘Dot-com Bubble’ Redux vs. Earnings-Driven Rally

Jupjup Report

Citibank.
