{"id":133755,"date":"2026-08-27T07:20:41","date_gmt":"2026-08-27T07:20:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/korea\/133755\/"},"modified":"2026-08-27T07:20:41","modified_gmt":"2026-08-27T07:20:41","slug":"coupang-nears-full-user-recovery-after-data-breach","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/korea\/133755\/","title":{"rendered":"Coupang nears full user recovery after data breach"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"text-primary article-summary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">SEOUL \u2013 Coupang is bouncing back faster than expected from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.straitstimes.com\/business\/companies-markets\/coupang-posts-surprise-loss-after-data-breach-fallout-deepens?ref=inline-article\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" class=\"gap-x-04 items-center inline text-primary-60 select-auto\" aria-label=\"link\" target=\"_blank\" data-testid=\"custom-link\">2025 data breach<\/a>, with user numbers nearly returning to pre-crisis levels, data showed on March 19.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">IGAWorks said Coupang\u2019s weekly active users reached 28.28 million in the week of March 9 to 15, narrowing the gap to just 2.8 per cent from the 29.08 million level immediately following the breach.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">The recovery marks a sharp turnaround from the depths of the crisis. When Coupang disclosed on Nov 29 that 33.7 million customers had been exposed, weekly active users stood at 27.84 million, falling to 26.69 million by late December.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Coupang stemmed the bleeding in January by offering affected customers compensation packages worth up to 50,000 won (S$42) per person, pushing active users back to the 27 million range and eventually into the 28 million band.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Meanwhile, the New York Stock Exchange-listed company saw its shares show signs of recovery as well.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">As at March 19, shares traded at US$20.09 (S$25), up 11.30 per cent over the past month, a rebound from the 52-week low of US$16.74 hit in February. Still, shares remain a long way from the 52-week high of US$34.08 reached in September 2025.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Even as it managed the breach\u2019s aftermath, Coupang has been pushing deeper into artificial intelligence for its logistics operations.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">At Nvidia GTC 2026 this week, Coupang announced an \u201cAI factory\u201d built in partnership with Nvidia, referring to a self-service artificial intelligence ecosystem running on the Coupang Intelligent Cloud and Nvidia\u2019s DGX SuperPOD that allows engineers across its global teams to rapidly test and deploy new AI models.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Coupang is incorporating AI models across its operations, applying them in areas such as warehouse inventory management and delivery route optimisation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">\u201cBy working with Nvidia, Coupang\u2019s engineers can build upon the advanced AI models and machine learning already powering our operations and unlock new levels of innovation for our company and our customers,\u201d said Mr Ashish Suryavanshi, the company\u2019s vice-president of engineering.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-primary font-tertiary-body-baseline-regular\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">The company said it is also serving as a launch partner for Nvidia\u2019s Dynamo, an open-source software for agentic inference.
