Chicago is the birthplace of house music and it\u2019s still doing its part to foster the legacy. The annual festival, presented as part of the summer music lineup on the lakefront by the Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events, offers a weekend of performances, discussions, dance lessons, and a wind-down overlooking the Chicago River\u2019s Confluence. Hear from a range of voices, from pioneers (including Jamie Principle) to emerging leaders (Yanna Lynette). And it\u2019s all free. Through Aug. 30 at Jay Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park, 201 E. Randolph St., and other locations; more at chicago.gov<\/a><\/p>\n Don Toliver<\/p>\n Maybe you saw Don Toliver\u2019s Miami show pop up in your social media feed; Justin Timberlake made a rare surprise appearance last weekend, performing \u201cRock Your Body\u201d \u2014 which Toliver samples in his song \u201cBody.\u201d This weekend, Toliver brings his \u201cNitrous-Octane\u201d tour to Allstate Arena. Dearborn St.; tickets from $105 at taogroup.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n Miranda Lambert<\/p>\n We\u2019re all still mourning Dolly Parton\u2019s death, and there\u2019s a good chance Miranda Lambert may help us heal this weekend with a rendition of \u201cDumb Blonde\u201d; the two recorded Parton\u2019s song for a 2018 Netflix film, \u201cDumplin\u2019.\u201d In any case, Lambert stops at Ravinia for one of a handful of appearances before her new album, \u201cCrisco,\u201d has its Oct. 2 release. 7 p.m. Aug. 30 at Ravinia Festival, 201 Ravinia Park Road, Highland Park; tickets from $75 at ravinia.org<\/a><\/p>\n Chicago director Joe Swanberg and actor Cory Michael Smith will take questions following screenings of \u201cThe Sun Never Sets.\u201d It\u2019s the latest film from mumblecore veteran Swanberg, his first feature since 2017. The project defines the performance as a \u201ccivic ritual \u2014 where dance carries memory, interrogates power, celebrates ingenuity, and imagines forward.\u201d 7 p.m. Aug. 28 at Harris Theater, 205 E. Nearly 150 food and craft vendors will gather on Butler Field for the Chicago stop of Panda Fest. The traveling Asian food festival pops up in more than 20 cities. Expect cultural performances and a Panda-themed bounce house. More than 30 acts and 100 street vendors will gather on Broadway, and a Kids Zone will provide hands-on activities and games for the younger set. Watch the parade, led by Grand Marshals former Joliet Councilmember Bettye Gavin and USA Boxing Elite Team champion Joseph \u201cJojo\u201d Awinongya Jr. The parade will be followed by a celebration in City Square. 1 p.m. Aug. 29, followed by City Square Celebration until 5 p.m., at Chicago and Benton streets, Joliet; details at jolietccp.com<\/a><\/p>\n Puzzle-lovers, take note: Last year, this event sold out, and with good reason. The Griffin Museum of Science and Industry stages an escape room-style challenge that will send you on a hunt for clues throughout the museum, after hours.
