China’s investment in artificial intelligence (AI) data centers is expected to boost demand for memory.

KB Securities said in a report on the 28th that Samsung Electronics is the largest beneficiary of China’s artificial intelligence (AI) data center investment. Analysts say that China’s policy to localize semiconductors will also act as a factor in creating new demand, not reducing Samsung Electronics’ memory demand.

The background is the expansion of investment in artificial intelligence (AI) data centers in the U.S. and China. KB Securities estimated that the cumulative investment in AI data centers in the U.S. and China will reach $5 trillion between 2026 and 2030. During the same period, the capacity of artificial intelligence (AI) data centers in both countries is expected to more than double from 95 GW to 201 GW.

Google, Amazon, and Microsoft are leading the investment in the United States, and Baidu, Alibaba, and Tencent are leading the investment in China. Analysts say that the AI infrastructure investment cycle will continue for a long time as the U.S. leads the market and China accelerates its growth.

사진 확대 [Source = iM Securities]

Kim Dong-won, a researcher at KB Securities, predicted, “Considering the advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) models, increased demand for reasoning, and increased adoption of its own artificial intelligence accelerator, not only the expansion of data centers but also the amount of memory installed per server will increase.”

In particular, China’s localization of semiconductors could be an opportunity for Samsung Electronics rather than a threat. This is because Chinese-made artificial intelligence (AI) accelerators are less computationally efficient than Nvidia products, so more memory and semiconductors are needed to perform the same level of computation. Researcher Kim said, “In high-performance server DRAM, there is still a technology gap between China’s Changsin Memory (CXMT) and Samsung Electronics.”

In fact, major Chinese cloud companies such as Baidu, Alibaba, Tencent, and ByteDance have long-term memory supply contracts (LTA) with Samsung Electronics. In addition, it is known that foundry cooperation is also underway to produce its own artificial intelligence (AI) accelerators.

Recently, there is a series of analysis in the market that China’s self-reliance on semiconductors is faster than expected. According to Chinese economic media Caixin on the 26th, Goldman Sachs predicted in a recent report that China’s localization of DRAM is progressing rapidly and that 40% of the demand for high-bandwidth memory (HBM) can be supplied by 2028.

Nevertheless, the domestic stock market remains optimistic about the semiconductor industry.

Park Sang-hyun, a researcher at iM Securities, said that the Bank of Korea raised its GDP growth forecast by 0.8 percentage points the previous day, “This is because we expect the semiconductor boom cycle to continue next year and lead exports, facility investment, and consumption improvement at the same time.”

It is the semiconductor business that determines whether next year’s growth rate will be higher than this year’s, and considering Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix’s performance forecasts for this year and next year, next year’s semiconductor cycle could be better than this year.

Researcher Park added, “The rapid growth of the artificial intelligence (AI) industry is causing the side effect of deepening polarization (K cycle),” but added, “Fortunately, this phenomenon will work favorably for a considerable period of time on the domestic economy and growth rate.”

中 Reflective Profits of Semiconductor LocalizationExpected Demand for Samsung Memory to IncreaseAI Data Center Investment Estimated 5 trillion…

[18
39969,2588,845,2858,38065,466,127,276
post-134759","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-samsung-electronics","tag-alibaba","tag-artificial-intelligence","tag-bank-of-korea","tag-data-center","tag-im-securities","tag-kb-securities","tag-samsung","tag-samsung-electronics
["GET
