Seoul Economic Daily DB<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-[var(--color-text)] leading-relaxed\">Samsung is providing 3 billion won ($2.1 million) to help repair damage from torrential rains that struck the Gyeongsang region, including Geoje and Tongyeong in South Gyeongsang Province and Andong and Uiseong in North Gyeongsang Province. The group will supply emergency relief goods and temporary shelters for displaced residents and offer financial assistance to affected customers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-[var(--color-text)] leading-relaxed\">Samsung said on the 28th that it had donated 3 billion won to help recover from flood damage caused by the heavy rains across the Gyeongsang region.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-[var(--color-text)] leading-relaxed\">Nine affiliates took part in the fundraising: Samsung Electronics (005930.KS), Samsung C&amp;T (028260.KS), Samsung Life Insurance (032830.KS), Samsung Display, Samsung SDI (006400.KS), Samsung Electro-Mechanics (009150.KS), Samsung SDS, Samsung Fire &amp; Marine Insurance (000810.KS) and Samsung Heavy Industries (010140.KS). Samsung Heavy Industries joined the donation even though parts of its own worksite were damaged by the downpour.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-[var(--color-text)] leading-relaxed\">The group is pairing the cash donation with physical relief goods and financial support. Through the Korean Red Cross, Samsung will deliver 1,000 sets of emergency relief supplies, including blankets and toiletries, along with 300 portable tent-type disaster relief shelters to the affected areas. Samsung has contributed funds to the Korean Red Cross every year since 2005 to help the organization stock disaster relief equipment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-[var(--color-text)] leading-relaxed\">Affiliates are also stepping in with financial measures. Samsung Card will defer billing for credit card payments due from August through October for up to six months for customers hit by the flooding. Scheduled payments can be paid in installments over as long as six months with no interest. Interest on card loans for affected customers will be cut by up to 30%, and long-term card loans maturing by the end of October will have their terms extended.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-[var(--color-text)] leading-relaxed\">Samsung has provided support for recovery from major disasters since 1995. It donated 3 billion won each for nationwide downpours in July last year and for wildfires in March. The group has also carried out overseas relief work, including products worth $1 million for the large wildfires in Los Angeles in 2025 and $3 million for the 2023 earthquake in Turkey. Including this latest donation, Samsung&#8217;s cumulative contributions for disaster recovery in South Korea since 1995 have surpassed 130 billion won.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong.
