But the industry and investors are nervous. This is because the early boom is an opportunity for Chinese semiconductor companies that are chasing the Korean semiconductor industry.

Korea has already lost its world No. 1 position to China in LCD and secondary battery markets. The patterns were the same. Chinese companies supported by the government’s cash-equity support take the low-cost product market first with large-scale facility investments at the risk of deficits. China grows its LCD and secondary battery companies based on its large domestic market. The Chinese government only leaves the most competitive companies through restructuring.

Through this process, Chinese companies become No. 1 companies with global competitiveness. As China occupies the market, Korean companies scale back their businesses with large-scale restructuring.

There is a crucial tipping point here. It’s technology. As Korea’s display and secondary battery technology are leaked to China, China’s technology exceeds a certain level. There is also a way to bypass Korean technology. China has dominated the low-cost market by investing in lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries, which Korean companies have neglected. The world’s No. 1 technology is not needed to occupy the low-cost market.

In memory semiconductors, evidence is also found that China has crossed this tipping point. Chinese products are being introduced to U.S. tech companies one by one in DRAMs for PCs and smartphones. If Apple uses China’s DRAM and NAND for iPhones, this tipping point will be irreversible.

The solution to China’s pursuit is also technology. It’s just creating a super gap with technology that can’t be replaced by price. However, Korea’s R&D environment is not much ahead of China. Examples include a 52-hour workweek limit, a sharing incentive structure represented by N% incentives, and insufficient investment in basic science. This is why the industry and investors are more anxious about the future of semiconductors. At this rate, our semiconductor industry will walk into a ‘determined failure’ on its own. Changes in the government and political circles are most urgent.

[Lee Deok-joo, a reporter from the industry department]

                                  사진 확대

#

secondary battery

K semiconductor

tipping point

restructuring

YMTC

secondary electricity

Samsung Electronics

Opportunities in semiconductor super boom gradually narrows the gap in nDRAM technologyto ease the 52-hour workweekSemiconductor R&D capabilities…

[18
22057,6449,127,276,16220,68715,68714,10595
post-135307","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-samsung-electronics","tag-k-semiconductor","tag-restructuring","tag-samsung","tag-samsung-electronics","tag-secondary-battery","tag-secondary-electricity","tag-tipping-point","tag-ymtc
["GET
