US President Donald Trump carried out two transactions involving Coupang Inc. shares in June through his asset managers. According to a financial disclosure, shares worth between $1,001 and $15,000 were sold on June 3, while securities worth between $15,001 and $50,000 were purchased on June 24.<\/p>\n

Disclosure data<\/p>\n

As Korea Herald reports<\/a>, the disclosure filed with the US Office of Government Ethics was made public on August 22. The document states that the transactions involving Coupang shares were carried out by managers of Trump’s funds.<\/p>\n

Trump’s previous financial reports this year listed 18 transactions involving Coupang shares through two investment accounts. They took place between October 9 and May 22.<\/p>\n

Context of US statements<\/p>\n

The deals drew attention amid tensions between Seoul and Washington over South Korean regulators’ response to a large-scale data leak linked to Coupang, a US-listed e-commerce company.<\/p>\n

In July, an interim staff report by the US House Judiciary Committee accused the South Korean government of \u201cdiscriminatory attacks\u201d on Coupang and other companies with American owners. The report also claimed that Coupang had been a persistent target.<\/p>\n

After the report was published, a White House official said that the administration of South Korean President Lee Jae-myung was singling out Coupang. The official expressed concern over what was described as discriminatory treatment of the company.<\/p>\n
