1. Smarter Calls, Messengers and IPTV: ‘AI for All’ Arrives This Year<\/a><\/p>\n

– Key summary: The Ministry of Science and ICT said on the 28th that it had selected consortiums led by SK Telecom, Kakao and KT as operators of the “AI for All” project, after written and presentation evaluations of six bidders that entered the public competition. The ministry said the winning bidders scored highly by presenting plans for general-purpose AI chatbots that surpass foreign AI, public AI agents that handle complex application procedures on users’ behalf, and specialized services developed through cooperation with startups. 2. Woojong Entry Launches Korea’s First AI Camera-Based Intelligent Speed Gate<\/a><\/p>\n

– Key summary: Woojong Entry, a revolving door manufacturer, said on the 28th that it had launched Korea’s first intelligent speed gate based on AI cameras. An AI camera mounted on top of the gate analyzes the passage area in real time to distinguish people from objects and determine the direction of movement and the number of people passing through. It is designed to tell normal passage by multiple people apart from accompanied entry that must be blocked for security reasons, and to identify tailgating, in which someone follows an authenticated user through the gate. The gate uses two motors and two glass doors to allow simultaneous two-way passage in a single wide lane, which is also expected to improve space utilization and cut installation costs. Wang Hyung-wook, chief executive of Woojong Entry, said the company would develop the product into an intelligent access security platform that combines AI video analysis with hardware technology to improve security, passage convenience and space efficiency together.<\/p>\n

3. AWS to Invest 700 Billion Won in AI Education for College Students Worldwide, Including Korea<\/a><\/p>\n

– Key summary: Amazon Web Services (AWS) unveiled a new program called “Student Rewards” on the 28th, saying it would invest $500 million (about 700 billion won) in AI education for college students worldwide. The program is open to those aged 18 and over enrolled in degree or professional certification programs, who can apply immediately after verifying their enrollment through SheerID, a student verification service. 4. AI That Talks to Factory Equipment: Kyungnam University Opens Manufacturing AX Hub<\/a><\/p>\n

– Key summary: Kyungnam University held an opening ceremony on the 28th for the Gyeongnam Physical AX Research Cooperation Center together with Megazone, moving in earnest into the AI transformation (AX) of regional manufacturing. Physical AX refers to technology in which AI goes beyond data analysis and connects with factory equipment, production processes and manufacturing data to be used in actual operations and production. The research center will combine Kyungnam University’s manufacturing education and research base with Megazone’s AI and cloud technology to develop and demonstrate technologies that can be used on factory floors. Kyungnam University signed agreements with 40 institutions including the National Assembly, government-funded research institutes and large companies in March this year, and has been selected as the lead organization for a 32 billion won demonstration project for core next-generation physical AI technologies.<\/p>\n
