Doosan Group Chairman Park Jeong-won and Vice Chairman Park Ji-won, who also serves as chairman of Doosan Enerbility, arrived in Nepal on the 29th after six Doosan Enerbility employees went missing in massive flooding there. The two plan to oversee search and rescue efforts on the ground in cooperation with the South Korean government and relevant authorities.<\/p>\n

Park Jeong-won and Park Ji-won landed at Tribhuvan International Airport in the Nepali capital of Kathmandu that afternoon. The accident site is in the Rasuwa district, about 70 kilometers from Kathmandu, where six Doosan Enerbility employees working at a hydropower plant construction site went missing in flooding on the 26th.<\/p>\n

Speaking to reporters at the airport, Park Ji-won said, “I understand that rescue efforts are under way for the employees we have not yet been able to reach.” He added, “I thought it would be better to come and oversee the rescue situation myself, so I arrived today.” On the possible use of helicopters, he said, “We will work closely with the government response team so that rescue operations can be carried out as quickly as possible.”<\/p>\n

Before departing, Park Ji-won met with the families of the missing employees to offer his condolences. “I told them the company will do everything it can,” he said.<\/p>\n

Park Jeong-won said in a message posted on the company’s internal bulletin board on the 27th that confirming the safety of the employees and bringing them home unharmed was the top priority, adding that the company was working closely with local authorities and related agencies and checking conditions on the ground through every available channel. He stressed that the company was concentrating its resources across the group to ensure that search, rescue and recovery measures were taken swiftly and systematically.<\/p>\n

Doosan Enerbility is running a 40-member emergency response headquarters at its Bundang office in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province, led by Executive Vice President Lee Dong-soo, head of the environment, health and safety division. In Nepal, an on-site response team including Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Chung Yeon-in is operating at the scene.<\/p>\n

Doosan Group said it will provide $5 million in emergency aid to the Rasuwa district to support search, rescue and recovery efforts in the flood-hit area.<\/p>\n

Sixteen South Korean employees were at the Doosan Enerbility hydropower plant construction site at the time of the accident. Six of them remain out of contact, while the other 10, who had been stranded, moved to Kathmandu the previous day.<\/p>\n

Doosan Enerbility is supporting the search by securing helicopters and other resources.
