Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd<br \/>\nSamsung Electronics, Samsung BioLogics, and Samsung Bioepis invited 15 Korean representatives and parents who won medals at the International Olympiad Mathematics, Physics and Biology Competition to award scholarships and encourage them.<\/p>\n<p>Samsung Electronics&#8217; Device Experience (DX) division, which is in charge of mobile and home appliance business, awarded scholarships to six International Mathematics Olympiad winners (3 gold medals, 2 silver medals, 1 incentive award) at Suwon Campus in Gyeonggi Province on the 11th. Roh Tae-moon, president of the DX division, awarded scholarships and encouraged the winners. In addition to six winners and six parents, officials from Olympiad organizations, including the President of Korean Mathematics, Gwak Si-jong, also attended the event.\n<\/p>\n<p>Samsung Electronics&#8217; device solution (DS) division, which is in charge of semiconductor business, awarded scholarships to five international physics Olympiad winners (all gold medals) at Hwaseong Campus in Gyeonggi Province on the 13th. Jeon Young-hyun, vice chairman of DS division, awarded the scholarship with five winners and five parents, as well as Yoon Jin-hee, chairman of the Korea Physics Association.\n<\/p>\n<p>Samsung Bioepis awarded scholarships to four International Biological Olympiad winners (all gold medals) at its Songdo office building in Incheon on the 14th. Kim Jae-geun, chairman of the Korean Biological Olympiad, four winners, and four parents attended. Kim Kyung-ah, president of Samsung Bioepis, awarded the scholarship.\n<\/p>\n<p>The award of scholarships for International Olympiad winners is part of an effort to raise social awareness of the importance of basic science and to support talented people who will lead future science and technology to fully demonstrate their talents. After the scholarship was awarded, the CEO of each affiliate shared lunch with the winners and parents to encourage and support them.\n<\/p>\n<p>The International Olympiad is a competition in which students under the age of 20 who have not received university education compete for scientific creativity and inquiry in 15 subjects, including mathematics, physics, biology, chemistry, and information, and is held annually around the world.\n<\/p>\n<p>This year&#8217;s International Olympiad was held for a month in July in four countries: mathematics (China, 10th-21st), physics (Colombia, 4th-12th), biology (Litania, 12th-19th), and chemistry (Uzbank, 10th-19th). The International Olympiad Information Competition was held in Uzbekistan from the 9th to the 16th.\n<\/p>\n<p>A total of 43 Korean delegates participated in the competition, including six mathematics, five physics, and four biological, chemical, and information. 381 people from 91 countries and 302 people from 78 countries competed in physics and biology, respectively, and all of the Korean delegations won gold medals, ranking first overall in both subjects. South Korea ranked sixth overall in mathematics, with excellent performances, including three gold medals, two silver medals, and one incentive award, in mathematics subjects participated by 666 people from 117 countries.\n<\/p>\n<p>Samsung is continuously expanding its efforts to foster domestic science and engineering talents in accordance with the management philosophy of being the best in talent. Samsung Electronics signed sponsorship agreements with domestic Olympiad organizations such as the Korean Mathematical Society (mathematics) and the Korean Physical Society (physics) in June last year, and Samsung Biologics and Samsung Bioepis in January this year.\n<\/p>\n<p>According to the agreement, Samsung provided donations this year to domestic mathematics, physics, and biological Olympiad organizations and plans to continue to provide them. The donation is used for the selection, education, and participation of the Korean delegation to the International Olympiad. In addition, related companies will separately award scholarships to winners with excellent grades for each subject.\n<\/p>\n<p>In addition to supporting the Korean delegation to Olympiad, which will lead Korea&#8217;s future development of basic science, Samsung has sponsored skilled talent since 2007. Samsung operates the International Functional Olympics National Training Center and specializes in hiring high school graduates who have won outstanding performances at domestic and international functional competitions.\n<\/p>\n<p>In addition, Samsung has also been operating the &#8220;Samsung Youth SW and AI Academy (SSAFY)&#8221; program since 2018 to cultivate domestic software (SW) talents and contribute to unemployed young people getting quality jobs.
